De pannenkoekenboot (The pancakeboat): Floating away on the pancake boat

    by danitsja_nl Updated Apr 4, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    The pancake boat

Every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday the pancake boat leaves the Waal quay for one hour, on board you can eat as many pancakes as you desire. This trip is especially interesting is you are travelling with children.

    Favorite Dish: The pancakes odcourse!

My litle sister loves them so and I think they are alright as well.

For the one hour pancake cruise:
    Adults: € 12,-
    Children: (3 till 12 year) € 7,-

Belvédère: The old city wall tower

    by pieter_jan_v Updated Jul 15, 2013

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Belvdre restaurant (view from Donjon)

The restaurant is housed in the Belvédère, a former Walltower called the Hoendertoren. As such there are huge basement cellars used as gun powder rooms. The present name of the tower originates from the wonderful river view. After the Spanish wars the buiding got a more recreative character, first for the towns magistrates, but in the course of time also for the "common" people. In 1678 the building was completely renovated.

The outside terrace is a great place to relax with a mighty view over the river.

    Business hours:
    Tu - Sa: Lunch: 12AM - 2.30PM; Dinner: 5PM - 9.30PM

23 October 2006: huge restaurant - we'd never been there before. As a matter of fact, the Orient Plaza houses four restaurants, Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Indonesian. We visited the Indonesian restaurant Nonya.

Favorite Dish: Wok buffet with sate ayam, rendang, ikan bumbu Bali, Foe Yong Hai, nasi goreng, bami goreng, pisang goreng - to name a few. Eat as much as you like for just under 17 euro (2006).

    Chalet Brakkestein (old)

13 January 2007 : an extraordinary place - a little more expensive than our budget would normally allow, but Jennie had received a voucher for this restaurant as a present.

Favorite Dish: A four course menu and some 'amuses' in between ; amongst other dishes we had mushroom consommé and cream soup as our entrée, delicious guinea fowl (Dutch: parelhoen) with tagliatelle and bass (Dutch: zeebaars) with risotto for our main course and mango 'sate' and lemon pie for dessert.

    Eetcafe De Muis: De Muis

    Nijmegen, eetcafe De Muis

We were here with family members aunt M. and Frank on the final day of the Four Days' Marches, 18 July 2008. Also present were Frank's walking mate and her family. I borrowed this picture from the website of the restaurant.

Favorite Dish: Some nice cool beer - König Ludwig Weissbier, a Bavarian brand apparently - mineral water, and Schnitzel. Jennie and I paid 15 euro each (2008). We returned on 9 May 2009, and on that occasion I had a three course menu, the main course being chicken with honey thyme sauce, salad and french fries.
We returned to the scene in July 2009, July 2010, July 2011, July 2012 and again in July 2013, on the last day of the Four Day's Marches and dined with the same friends over and over again (for those of you who've seen the movie, it has become a sort of 'Groundhog Day'-event). In 2013, we had the 4Days Marches Special Menu and paid 25 euro each, but found that the service has diminished. Well never mind, I guess they'll get another chance next year.

  • Odessa: Simple, good food

Odessa is a good, not too expensive restaurant. They have a special menu that changes every now and then. The names on the menu are made up and represent the contents of the food with a funny twist.

In the summer they have a summer garden where you can sit outside in the sun and enjoy your dinner

Favorite Dish: The cheese fondue is perfect, but everything ranging from the chicken to the steak is perfect

This restaurant situated in front of the famous river, facing the famous bridge.

Good night view and easy to go for a round river tour.

Favorite Dish: We like the fish menu, as well the grilled mix-meat.

The fish was fresh, and the grilled mix meat was fantastic.

Grand Cafe Moenen: If You Just Fancy A Nibble or a Full-blown Repast

    Thai Nibbles for Lunch
    1 more image

The day and a half or so that I spent in Nijmegen I was in more of a grazing mood rather than sitting down to a full-works meal and the "borrolen" here were just the job to soak up the lunchtime beer. The Grand Cafe Moenen is one of the restaurants facing onto the Grote Markt in the centre of the city and whilst styled as a "Grand Cafe" is in fact pretty informal and very reasonably priced.

The menu is quite extensive covering all the usual bits and bobs with slighty more elaborate fare in the evenings.

Service was, on a quiet rainy Wednesday, perfectly efficient and friendly and I can imagine this is one of the places to be in the summer when the sun's out.

Favorite Dish: I only had one the nibbles - the "Thaise garnaaltjes" which were the bought in deep-fried variety but none the worse for that, a tasty selection of nibbly bits with a chilli dip and for less than 4 Euros perfectly up to the task.

Fean: Just Down The Road From The Pub!

    The Kebab
    1 more image

Well, it just has to be done, doesn't it? Having had a pleasant evening in de Nieuwe Maan, in which more than a few beers were consumed, the good old kebab shop beckoned. It was on the direct route from the pub to my hotel, it was whatever time in the early hours and whilst some temptations CAN be cast aside, I do find myself often lured by the seductiveness of a decent kebab.

This is as good as it gets. Friendly serving guy, a couple of hot chillies and though it wasn't quite as greasy as my personal preference it wasn't a bad kebab at all! You can eat in, take away or sit out on the covered little terrace all for the same price.

I can't remember what it cost but I'm sure it must have been on the inexpensive side.

Supposedly Indonesian, but mostly salty, otherwise tasteless food. Does not seem very fresh either. If you really cannot do without Indonesian food (like me) learn to make it yourself or try take-way from some toko--Rinus is supposed to be good, although I have not been there myself.

Very popular river-side restaurant. I went there on a Sunday afternoon and the place was packed full. Food is superb so it's not hard to see why it's so busy.

Favorite Dish: I had the Dutch stew (forget the name). Really delicious !!!

    Anno 1708

Already within the year 1708 travelers made their way on this location, where today is Restaurant/Inn Mountain and Valley.
It has a rich history. Before this route was very important because of the connections with the neighbouring Germany. These days it is the favorite place for lovers of various nature, called the 'groene Twente' meaning 'green Twente'
