Canopic jars of glazed earthenware

Toon Thijs ceramics studio - the artist's workshop and small exhibition gallery of his own work and that of other artists.

What to buy: We bought four of these 'canopic jars' with birds' heads. The artist explained to us that he combines almost mathematical shapes - perfectly round dishes and vases etc. - with organic forms such as these birds' heads. The vases of glazed earthenware (faience) reminded us of the actual canopic jars we'd seen at the Luxor Museum during our visit to Egypt in 2000.

What to pay: These vases come in various prices, starting with some 30 or 40 euros for the small ones.

All sorts of shops you can imagine!

As far as I am concerned Nijmegen is the best shopping city of the Netherlands. It has so many different shops, everyone can find what he or she likes. You will find lots of clothing shops, shoestores, antique shops, candy shops even tattoo shops can be found here. There is not one shoppingstreet, no there are lots. Also there sometimes is a market right in the heart of the city. So even extra shopping is possible haha!

What to buy: - candy gifts
- antiques for your house
- lovely prom dresses

What to pay: prom dresses are rather cheap here, antiques and other are about average.

Take a look into heaven?

What to buy: This page is dedicated to my friend JanPeter74... A visit to my favourite neighbouring country would be incomplete without buying a new supply of hagelslag. For perfect breakfasts at home. I always go for the good ones, from De Ruijter, coz no-name brands are really not that good. I can really recommend the newest flavour: Witte Vlokken!

"De snoepkraam" on the square (grote markt): Buying "gevulde koeken" on the market
ptitetoile profile photo

ptitetoile 660 reviews

The gevulde koeken (cakes with almond fulling) are one typical speciality of the Netherlands and since I bought it for the first time in Nijmegen and in Amsterdam, I can't go there without eating at least one or bringing some to my friends in Brussels (especially Bridget) who are fond of it!!!!
You can find them everywhere, in the supermarket, in the bakery... but there, they are really excellent! You can find also all kinds of sweets :-)

What to pay: 50 eurocents each
