Open air swimming pool. Even though we couldn't swim very well, we used to come here when we were kids, it was within walking distance of our home. The pool has been redesigned and renovated a couple of times with community funds since then! For the most part, they depend upon volunteers nowadays, but guess what - they're still there! Jennie and I like to visit after working hours (5 pm - 7 pm). Adults pay Euro 3.50 for a single visit (Summer 2006). Large basin with depth 2.00 - 3.30 meters, children's basin 0.40 - 1.30 meters depth, two small circular basins for toddlers ; children's games - ask for 'Pierre'! - and water slide. Picture from someone else's website.

Nijmegen is home to the world's largest multi-day walking event.
The "Nijmeegse Vierdaagse" or International 4-days marches take place from Tuesday to Friday in the 3rd week of July.
This year saw the 89th edition of the 4-days marches. Some 47,500 walkers from all over the world registered, 38,500 of whom actually completed the 4 days. I am proud to say I was one of them :-)
There are 3 distances: 30k, 40k and 50k.
The minimum distance you must walk to qualify for the official Vierdaagse medal is:
30k: for children aged 12-15, women aged 60+, men aged 65+.
40k: for women aged 16-59, men aged 16-18 and 50-64, military participants carrying at least a 10kg (back)pack.
50k: for men aged 19-49
Equipment: * good shoes are a must-have. You can train for this all year, but without good shoes your feet are sure to be suffering!
* rain gear to keep you dry - either an umbrella or a rain cape. Rain jackets & trousers are a hassle to put on and make you sweat even more than you already do.
* enough water to keep you from dehydrating
* enough (light) food to keep you from passing out
* good humour!! - to keep you going if your feet/legs don't wanna anymore...

As most of you will know the Netherlands is very flat, but that does not mean we don’t have great spots for lost climbers. In Nijmegen there is one of the many indoor climbing halls in the Netherlands. Klimcentrum Nijmegen is the perfect place for the beginner, but also for the more experienced climber. The climbing gym has 1900 m2 of climbing and with it's maximum height of 21 meters, it's one of the highest in the Netherlands.
