Being there in Rheden early in the morning I have found nice to walk around.
In fact I use to take an earlier train just to spend few minutes in the city, impressed by the cleanliness of the street and purity of the air.
The special colours and the morning haze were making everything to look different than in the daylight...

By far, the number one attraction in Rheden is the "Posbank" area. These hills are covered by heather and the relief is unique for Dutch landscape. Sandy hills were cut out by water-erosion (still visible when you walk along the steep paths up and down the hills). The surrounding forest kept away because of the moving from the sand, covering treesprouts faster then they could grow. Heather found it's way onto the hills and gives them a magnificent purple colour in August and September. Now-a-days mankind helps nature to keep it's form, as the environment here is very fragile.

A few minutes drive from Rheden, brings you in "De Steeg". This village holds the castle of Middachten, where an aristocratic family still lives. The gardens surrounding the castle are herbal and kep in great shape. Some parts of the castle is opened for public, but the greatest event here is at Christmas (see local customs-tip).

When we drove home we went through Rhenen. I was attracted by the church tower we saw but unfortunately we had no time for a strowl through Rhenen.
One day I hope to return and visit the church and the Grebbe mountain!
This is what I found on the net :
Rhenen is known for the Cunera church with its beautiful tower. The church as we know it was built in the 15 th century, the tower was completed early 16 th century.
In summertime the church can be visited and if ya like, you can climb the tower. More information on that can be given by the tourist information board of Rhenen.
