Garmerwolde house

There are some nice old houses in this village. Right next to the church is what I think the old vicarage, and this house next to the old school must have been the headmaster's house once.

Both houses are very well kept.

Most Groninger villages have houses like this and often are inhabited by people that love living there and therefore keep up the maintanance.

Church and tower, Garmerwolde

Standing on the outside of the village, on the border of green pastures, this church stands hidden behind a wall of trees.
Some nice old gravestones can be found in the cemetry and the church has some typical brickwork.

Since there s little more to see in Garmerwolde than the church, the cemetary and some nice houses, best means of transportation is a bicycle.
A recreational landscape has been developped between the city of Groningen and Garmerwolde.
Groningen is but some good two kilometres to the west.
There also is a so called 'liberation forest', trees planted in honour of and as a thank you for the Canadian liberators of our town in 1945.

Going to the east, towards Ten Boer, one can follow the old monks' road, a small cycle path through the fields with some great views.
Or one can go the north and cycle through other small villages like Thesinge which sure are worth a visit as well.

While cycling the small cycle path do not try to photograph cycling.
Could cause you to fall into the ditch, which is right next to the small path.

This small path takes you from the city of Groningen to Garmerwolde, beats cycling along the highway N360!

Just to cycle through the Groninger landscape on a crisp, cold day with a beautiful blue sky, makes one never want to leave this province.
