De Pauw means The Peacock in dutch
Great place, excellent food nice neat surroundings and amazing service
the staff are sweet and attentive
I recommend their de Pauw menu, normally a set 3-4 course menu (average 34 euros pp)
Turkish family fast-food- Seriously GO
Fresh, Yummy, large donor kebab wraps, served with garlic-mayo sauce, and tomatoe-chilli sauce
Favorite Dish: The food is fresh, and my favourite is the donor kebab chicken sadnwitch with everything in it (including onions, which is not usual for me) and french fries and a coke (total costs 7 EUR, great lunch deal)
Great Mexican food, you can have combo's of two of three (taco, quessedillia, burrito) I had the burrito's and quessedillia's one in meat the other in chicken- I liked the chicken better
Comes with rice, beans, salad and melted cheese/sauce
The place was PACKED, and it was a weekday, so I'm guessing it's a popular mexican resteraunt here...
It's in an old style building/house, two floors, kinda congested, and soft lights- tres romantic
Favorite Dish: Chicken burrito's..
three of us had the combo thingy i mentioned above, drinks, fries, some coffee- total for all three was around 50-60 EUR
A weekend Groningen combine with weekend Athens ;-)
We are crazy about Greek food!!! So I gues we are specialist.....
The food and service in this restaurant is perfect!! Can't say more ;-)
Favorite Dish: Keftedakia (grilled meatballs with tomato sauce...with taste of the real grill PERFECT!!)
Kos schotel....Kos Plate
Here we met up for some coffee and tea to start the day of the VT-meeting. Take a look inside for art art amd art very modern.
I don't know the exact style but it's not Jugenstil or Amsterdam School, so I though Art Deco would be the best bet....
Its a café annex restaurant, which means no formal dinning but a place for an easy dinner with friends, family or VT people.
It looked quite busy on a ordinary wednesday evening so it might be handy to make reservations in advance. Of course its always possileble to have a drink first and wait for a table.
They had a nice varied menu for big and small eaters as well as vegetarians.
Favorite Dish: For starter i had this salad with smoked chicken, peach and cheese and a big heap of greens of course. It tasted very good.
Followed by a steak and a dessert.
The Ugly Duck is a cosy restaurant near the center of Groningen. Besides having lunch or dinner it's also possible to have a drink here.
Favorite Dish: They serve lunch and dinner from the menu but there is also a special dish for the day. I had Lebanese bread filled with mixed vegetables and this tasted very good (this is a vegetarian menu).
The Four Roses, Mexican restaurant.
It is the first Mexican restaurant in Groningen and it is definitely the best. This big restaurant has four rooms and two kitchens (when it is very busy even three).
When it is very busy it is possible you have to wait at the bar for a while, but that is not so bad I think ;-).
Favorite Dish: I don't have a favourite menu as long as it is vegetarian.
Before you choose something from the menu you can drink a cocktail and eat some tortilla chips.
A good place to eat is Ribhouse Bronco. Main dishes are American, but there are also some European dishes.
The restaurant is in the center of Groningen. Several pubs are nearby. Prices are not too expensive.
Favorite Dish: The menu has three vegetarian menu's. I've had two of these: 'Stars and stripes' and 'Mississippie river'. Both of these dishes were very good.
O'Ceallaigh Authentic Irish pub in the centre of Groningen. It's a rather small place, where you can meet many Irish and lots of people who are seriously interested in Ireland and its culture. Quite often there are live performances of traditional Irish music. Especially interesting are the Traditional Music Sessions on Sunday afternoon, starting at 5.00 pm. At the ground floor Guinness, Murphy's Stout, Murphy's Red and Strongbow Cider are available on draught, among various other beverages. At the first floor (the lounge) there's Murphy's Irish Stout on draught.
O'Ceallaigh is the most popular bar in the city of Groningen, according to an investigation held by the Groninger Gezinsbode in February 2000.
Oriental Palace, a Chinese restaurant
It's the only decent Chinese restaurant this side of town :-)
Favorite Dish: The take away menu: cheap (only about 20 guilders) and eatable
Time Out.The last years I only visited during day-time or early evening, but I am always content. Have heard that in the evenings it is good 2.
Favorite Dish: Cuisine: Grill ; Dinner Café
'Het Pakhuis', Dinner Café (montigniac and dietary meals possible)
Het Pakhuis is close to inner city where all the action is.
Favorite Dish: I never ate there, just had some drinks. Some say it is a good restaurant, others don't like it all, depends on what you expect of a restaurant.
The Newscafe on the Grote Markt is good for lunches and dinners. It serves dishes from all over the world, not one specific kitchen. In spring and summer you can sit in the terrace in front of the cafe.
On Friday and Saturday, the dance club underneath the restaurant is opened.
Favorite Dish: It is Groningen, so Mosterdsoep is one of the must haves. In this place, the mustard soup has salmon in it, quite nice.
Check out the full menu on their website: http://www.newscafe.nl/
The first day we ate in the 'Drie Gezusters'. The service is very slow and some of the meat was a bit dry, but all the other things where good (atmosphere, low prices and good potatoes, french fries, salads, vegetabledishes and drinks).
De Drie Gezusters also has a terrace, is a pub and has several bars and discos.
Favorite Dish: Steak with peppersauce and with french fries and chinese colesla on the side.
