If you are here, make sure to have time enough to visit the manor Fraeylema-borg.
The entrance fee is a bit over the top (adults 3 € and kids 2 €) but since they use it for restauration of the manor I can have peace with it because the manor and its grounds are very well taken care of.
Children can do a kind of a puzzle tour through the manor so you don t have to keep them in line all the time ;-)

24km (15 miles) E of Groningen
This little town is the source of the world's largest-known natural gas deposit (discovered in 1959) and supplies over one-third of Netherlands's power requirements. To get there by car from Groningen, take N360 towards Delfzijl, turn right onto N986 just outside the city, and then take N387. By public transportation, take bus 78 from Groningen bus station.
Slochteren is in the left lower corner of the black route.

Hahaha, the kids wanted an ice-cream and when we stopped the car at a busstop I stuck my head out the car so I could get out, the first thing I read was : Lalkens rulezzzz!!!

Favorite thing: Across the road of Fraeylema manor is this little house. It is somewhat out of place for most houses that stand here are obvious build by people that had some money to spend.

Favorite thing: I must have been inside this church once but I forgot all about it.
Like some churches in our province the tower stands a part from the church.
In 1881 a fire destroyed the church and just the tower, dated 13th century, remained.
The church was rebuilt.
