While staying in Baexem, we went twice down the road to de Oude Smidse, a lovely, family operated restaurant/pub/cafe. The hosts are Leon and Petra Adams, whose son also helps out after school. Their English is somewhat limited, but the cook speaks fluently.

They have quite a varied menu, with generous portions of well cooked foods.

My friends had steak, pork cutlets and salmon in a cream sauce; I had schnitzel on both visits. Along with the meal, they served fries, salad, and a vegetable (we had brocolli in a nice cheese sauce). All for around €10-12 each. They have full bar service, and feature Amstel beer.

The service is excellent; the owners and staff are very friendly. There are 2 large outdoor patios, where the locals bike in to have a beer, or you can eat indoors.

You can play darts or billiards in the games room. There is also a large separate room for private functions of up to 250 people.

Favorite Dish: I enjoyed the Jaeger Schnitzel and the Wiener Schnitzel.
