Also on the same graveyard, a special area with some simple white crosses. These simple graves belong to the Paters HH Harten. The monastery of these fathers was located on the Cauberg opposite of the Lourdes Grot. There are plans to built social housing in the old monastery building.
Maybe you are thinking graveyards are creepy but this one is really worth a visit. There are many beautiful graves, some made out of the local marlstone. There even is a national monument amongst the graves. This tomb and chapel from 1892 were designed by architect PJH Cuypers. It is the tomb of the Habets-Willems family. The entire tomb and chapel were restored in 2003.
Jewish victims of war
On the other side of the road, a bit lower is the graveyard. They have a special part which is a dedicated jewish graveyard. At this jewish graveyard there is a memorial plaque for the jews from Valkenburg, who didn't return from the concentration camps after the war.
Along the Cauberg you will find the remembrance monument for all the Limburg victims of war from the resistance in 1940-45. The carillon plays at set hours the Limburgs anthem or the dutch anthem: the Wilhelmus.
Inside the little chapel are two walls with names of the Limburg people of the resistance who died between 1940 and 1945.
Treat yourself on a day out in the baths at the top of the Cauberg: Thermae 2000, a modern spa.
The water comes from 3 springs. Two are located at a depth of 400 metres and provide thermal water for the indoor and outdoor baths. The third spring, at a depth of 80 metres, provides a sparklingly fresh drinking water, rich in minerals. The temperature of the water in the indoor and outdoor pools is always about 32° Celsius.

The Lourdes is a place to worship. It is an exact replica of the cave in Lourdes, France.
In 1858 Mary appears before Bernadette in the Massiabielle rocks. The pastor of Valkenburg in 1901 wanted to built a Lourdes grot but couldn´t find a good place. His succesor pastor Hermans starts building in 1926. Pastor Hermans and artist Jef Eymael went to Lourdes and made gyps models. These models were used to make the exact replica.
The Gemeentegrot (towncave) is one of the caves you can visit in Valkenburg. It is located at the bottom of the Cauberg. The caves were formed when marlstone was mined here. Today you can tour the caves and see the art that is made here over the years, not only by artists but also by people hiding here during the second world war. Also to see here are some fossils from the sea that once was here. And ofcourse the bats.
Every year from end november to the weekend before christmas there is a christmasmarket in the cave.
The Holland Casino at the top of the Cauberg is open every day from 13.30 to 03.00.
The casino has over 325 machines and 30 tables.
