When you visit Holland, you most probably will land at Schiphol Airport. The fastest way to travel down is to arrange a flight to Maastricht Aachen Airport. Unfortunately KLM recently stopped with their regular flights to Maastricht. It is even possible to arrange tourflights, to have a beautiful view over Maastricht and it's surroundings. LOCAL BUS by gkitzmil Maastricht is served by a city bus system that is quite good. There are also busses (Hermes) that go outside of the city including Aachen (Germany) train station and Aachen center. Plus there are Belgian busses that will take you to a number of Belgian locations (such as Tongeren). The photo shows one of the bus stops at the Markt (market place). The Tourist Office (VVV) has all of the information Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

Visiting Maastricht, it also possible to make a boat trip at the river Maas. The city boat trip will take 50 minutes and is going south. During the boat trip you will have a good view at the Bonnefanten museum, the provincial government buildings and the slopes of the St Pietersberg. Further no more highlights except enjoying the boat trip itself. The boat will continue as far as the Belgian border and then return to the starting point in the city centre. Departure is every hour. Costs for an adult is 6.90 euro. During the boat trip you can also go ashore at the St Pietersberg. Here you can make a visit to the marlstone caverns. After visiting the caverns you will return by a later boat. This will take all together three hours. Costs for this trip are 9.65 euro The boattrips are organised by rederij Stiphout. You can find the landing stage at the Maaspromenade. This is at the westbank just north of the St Servaas bridge. It is signposted, so not easily to miss. by BillNJ The Maastricht train station is small, but it does have a ticket office, bank (with currency exchange), a few shops, and an information desk. At the ticket office, though, I was advised that the price of a ticket is less expensive if you purchase in one of the ticket machines. Therefore, I followed this advice -- and saved a little money. The major feature of the Maastricht train station is that it is located in the Wyck section, across the river from the main part of the city. However, it is only a short walk to the main part of the city across one of the pedestrian/bicycle bridges. Theme: Train

Starting from the Vrijthof in the citycentre you can make citytrips with oldtimer busses like this blue doubledecker or an old yelllow schoolbus. During the citytour by bus you can visit the historical parts of the city like the citywalls and the townhall, but also the eastbank with the Centre Céramique and Bonnefanten museum and the St Pietersberg. There are three different trips. leaving at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm from the Vrijthof. The regular citytour is 50 minutes and costs 6.90 euro. You you can also make a combination with a boattrip at the river Maas. This will take one hour more and costs 10.80 euro. The third possibility is to enlarge the trip with a visit to the caves at the St Pieterberg. This will take more than three hours. The trips are organised by Stiphout Tours & Trips, Maaspromenade 58, 6211 HS Maastricht Leave a Comment Theme: BusPhone: +31 43-3515309Website: www.stiphout.nl Other Contact: info@stiphout.nl

Maastricht has two railway stations. In the centre is the Central Station. From here you can easy walk into the citycentre: Central. The other station is "Randwyck", 250m from MECC Maastricht. Maastricht is rather good connected with big cities in Europe by rail. In the future it is expected that there will be even a high-speed-train (TGV) between Maastricht and Paris via Brussels. It took me four and half hours to Maastricht by train, coming from Emmen in the north-east of the Netherlands. By car I could make the trip in more than one hour less. In the railwaystation is a Brasserie, the meeting point for VTers at the 21th August 2005. There is also a shop of AH for buying drinks and food. Have a look up at the colourful windows in the mainhall of the station before you leave the building. Leave a Comment
