Follow the river up north by bike or with a kayak. You will enjoy viewing nice little towns and nature.

Daytrips in rented kayaks. Adventurous yet safe “white-water” trip down the uncanalized Meuse in original Canadian survival kayaks and return journey by bus or taxi.
Stretch: Borgharen-Uikhoven (10 kms., 2 hours) and Borgharen-Meeswijk (23 kms, 4,5 hours).
Point of departure: river forelands, Grote Dries, Maastricht/Borgharen.
Departure: in July and August daily from 10.00 a.m.-11.30 a.m., or by appointment. From 15th April - 1st July and from 1st September - 15th October a reservation is desirible. Parking available. Life jackets and containers impervious to water are disposal free of charge; changing-rooms near start and finish also café with terrace.

Kajak Maasland
It is an unforgettable experience to take a kayak trip along the Maas. There is no shipping on the stretch between Smeermaas-Lanaken and Meeswijk, so tranquillity and space are guaranteed!
Long trip of 21 km (4 or 5 hours)
Departure: Bosscherweg, Maastricht, near the Belgium border in Lanaken-Smeermaas; Trip of 11 km (2 hours); departure: Kotem a.d. Maas (Maasmechelen), Belgium. Arrival: Meeswijk/ferry-boat (Berg a/d Maas). Dressing rooms, cafe-taverne with terrace, bus shuttle back to starting-place. Reservation is necessary!

Go and take a walk in the city park, you can walk on the old citywalls.
It's quit, nice and peacefull......with some nice views .......
Visit the new library (its free! and you can use the PC's for free to send your emails home)
in the new city area, Ceramiquesingel, near the railwaystation ......
Go and take a drive out of town and follow the 'mergellandroute' nice views and small villages
and farmland in miniature .....compared to the U.S ..........

There are about as many ducks in this area (around Maastrict) that there were rabbits in Eindhoven. Personally, I really liked it as it kinda gave the whole place a peacefull country feel..
