“de Volwaag” restaurant/bar.
Very good atmosphere, mainly locals. Very good food. Friendly service. Is in a 16th century building that must have been a courthouse. Has two entrances and a second floor.
Recommended to us by a relative that goes there frequently.
Paid 50 Euro for dinner for three people, incl. a “4 seasons” salad (E9.30), pasteitje (excellent), kip sate (excellent), brochette (meat on a skewer, cooked medium rare, good) and 6 drinks.

The coffee shop is situated at the old town centre (train station) near the Meusse. Do not confuse with a dutch "coffeeshop". Here you can get the best macchiato, cappucino for breakfast or lunch. Opens up early and closes at 6. They are soon opening up a new place near the "Vrijthof". Great sandwiches, soups, salads, cheesecake and more.
service tends to be alow, but it's worth the wile.
It can pack up real fast, but there will always be seats availlable again.
Try it!

Me as everlasting objective tipwriter and a friend biked our way to Mechelen and discovered a good place to stop for a drink as the 30 degrees sun was beating on our baseballhats! It was the pub called "the old Brewery" and is surrounded in a vally situated at the food of another steepy hill. In the old days this was the place to produce and taste beer and even do politics and city's governing (a wellknown phenomenen: beer and ruling the town is stronly connected even nowadays) Now the pub has a grand terrace, wooden tables outdoors, it has a tremendous view and breathes out a cozy athmosphere. The place to be!!! the staff is friendly mainly speaks dutch, englisch and since its located next to Belgian Wallonia also french and Germans can find their way to a good glass of original beer too. The staff is fast and friendly, the surroundings are pictoresque, they have dozens of special local beers and softdrinks, the indoors is faboulouse: authentic furniture and a lot of wood paintings. This cafe goes back to 1782. Striking feauture: the pub/brewery has an old cellar like a german Bierstube with a fire hearth and wooden long tables.
Favorite Dish: Must try: Limburgean cheese, ham, Aardenner paté, all this with a litre glass of cool fresh beer for 8 euro. Also try: mosterdsoupe with bacon. The kitchen is open from 12 till 4 pm. From 8 pm the pavement terrace is self-servce. Best drink: Gerardus Kloosterbeer Double for 3 euro. The place is run by a family and also functions as a family hotel. You can eventually plan your tripsin the Maastricht surroundings and hills from this pub/hotel.

As i love biking its not far to find d'r Pley, - when you follow the main route from Maastricht into the direction of Aachen and turn to the right at Margraten you reach Noorbeek in 10 kilometres straight along- ,a beautifull old authentic restaurant/pub in the heart of Noorbeek. Sitting at the pavement terrace enjoying the sunshine, see tourists rushing by and listen to the latest gossips of the locals sitting there in front of the old pub. In side the old house you see an old syle interior with ovens, old tables, woodwork, dating from 1785. It used to be a partriciers house where the righ and famous of local Noorbeek lived and left their traces. Inside you enter via the Kabinetsje and you see old wall paintings and gaslamps. The owners, also play a ridge role in the Norbeekian folcloric village life. The Name Pley means squaire and its actually located in the heart of Noorbeek next to the church, The pub is also called nowadays Bie der Taco, we asked why that is, but still wonder why all locals call the cafe this way.
Favorite Dish: Must try: local dish: sausage with warm apple, sirup and black bread. Very tasty!

An excellent ambiance. upon arrival we were nicely met and asked what we expected of our dinner. The chef visited us at our table after dinner to see if the restaurant had lived up to our wishes. Food was excellent, we had chosen the surprise menu and a wine arrangement to fit the food. All was an experience by itself. Staff was very friendly and helpfull. We enjoyed it very much

Very nice waiter! You have to take your time here, because they didn't plan the amount of serving personal wright. To little people serving to many visitors. Nice terrace, relaxing with view on the Market square and city hall.
Favorite Dish: Lamb chops with fries! mmmmmmmmm!
A very diverse choice of pizza!

This is another great restaurant and cafe near the Market Place and Staad Huis or City Hall in Maastricht. We usually found it quiet with great beers on tap, good service, and good food. This is also a small hotel with 26 rooms.
Favorite Dish: Schnitzel. I particularly love schnitzel and I really enjoyed what they served.

This became one of my favorite cafe's because of the friendly owner! Another benefit is the location, right on the edge of the River Maas where the tour boats stop! Even from the window of the cafe you get a great view of the right bank of Maastricht.
Favorite Dish: Enjoy the beer but also there are some great local dishes coming out of a very small kitchen!
