Valkenburg Restaurants

Valkenburg counts plenty of restaurants; most of them proposing snacks, pizzas, Dutch tapas & touristic menus ...
But finding something GOOD, not touristic (i.e. noisy, expensive and tasteless) can't be difficult.

You can find the restaurant - 't Berkelpoortje - at only hundred meters from the main crowded 'restaurant' street. Unlike there you can enjoy here a calm and peaceful atmosphere.

The terrace was heated, which allowed to eat outside. (We went there for dinner in a somehow colder evening). The terrace counted something like 6 tables and there were a few more tables inside.

Though we noticed only one waiter, we enjoy the friendly and fluent service.

The food was maybe simple but very nice and well cooked and with good portions. (read below)

The prices were very moderate as well for the menu as for the drinks.
We'll definitely go back there!

Favorite Dish: There are different menus, from 16 eur- to 22 eur-.
The menu at 22 eur- was your own combination of a first, second course and dessert from the menu.

We choose for the menu at 16 which was really good; composed of a salad with chicken and bacon (first course), steack with pepper sauce (second course) and a chocolate mousse as dessert.

The food was maybe simple but very nice and well cooked and with good portions.

A new restaurant/take away in Sibbe, opened June 2006.
Sibbe is a beautiful village 2 km from Valkenbourg.
Lunch dishes are home made style. We tried the chicken ragout, among others, a few times and it was fantastic! There is a take away option and they also serve dessert (vlai etc) and ice cream.
A very good stop if you are cycling in the area eg if you are doing the Plateau Route.

Aan de Linde is located in the centre of Valkenburg but it is a quiet fairy-like location. You feel very welcome and you will be served very good lunch or diner.
Besides that Aan de Linde serves 42 different fresh made ice-tea's in the summer and 30 different hot-chocolates in winter time.

Favorite Dish: I love the fingerfood, the salades and the carpaccio as a starter. As maincourse the lamb is excellent but I can also recommend the oysters and the sea mussels.
Just a cup of coffee is already an experience, it will be serverd with a garniture of whipped cream and advocate and a luxury chocolate.

At restaurant La Fleur the chef Pierre Schmetz cooks with flowers or flower extracts.
The restaurant is small and has a great atmosphere. The service is absolutely stunning. With every dish you get a full explanation of all the wonderful things that are in there.

The taste of the dishes we tried was great. The presentation was also one of the best in Valkenburg.

This restaurant is definitely on our list for next visits. If you do want to eat there in a weekend it is advisable to book a table because it is a small restaurant.

Steakhouse & Balkan Restaurant Valkenhof is a fantastic restaurant located in the heart of Valkenburg. Here you can taste delishious Spanish, Balcan and Italian dishes served in an friedly and nice atmosphere. The ambience is very nice with reconstruction of Mediterranean views and architectures. Enjoy your meal!!

Favorite Dish: To eat in Steakhouse & Balkan Restaurant Valkenhof was a great experience. Here you can taste delicious Balkan, Spanish and Italian dishes. The house specialities are tapas (hot and cold) with a great choice. I can suggest to taste the Mexican menù: tomato soup; grilled skewers of meat with spicy sauce, chips and salad; dessert of the day and coffee.
I can suggest to try also the Sea Menù: grilled salmon with pasta with lobster sauce, French potatoes and salad; dessert of the day and coffee.

Every friday, saturday and sunday the restaurant serves a mexican buffet. The buffet contains 4 kinds of soup (ranged from mild spicy to the very spicy cactus soup), over 20 main courses and a rich dessert buffet. The food was very good and it was clearly marked when a dish was spicy or even hot.
But the main reason to have dinner here is the decor. In the back of the restaurant you will find the tropical garden. An outdoor garden with a roof and heated by so many stoves it feels like in the tropics. On the ground there is gravel and the chairs and tbales add to the garden atmosphere. There are lots of colorful mexican decorations around and some cages with tropical birds between the many green plants.

Favorite Dish: We had the buffet and couldn't try everthing because there was too mauch choice. But the things we did try were good.

Had coffee and vlaai (E4.25)- not the best; 1 ice cappuccino (E2.95); and 2 small bottles of water (E3.60)- like elsewhere, water is very expensive. Good people-watching if you sit outside; good asian style decoration inside.
