Gaudi: Great wraps for lunch
Gaudi is a restaurant that specializes in spanish tapas. There is a special tapasmenu.
They also have a many tables outside ( in the sun around lunchtime).
Favorite Dish: For lunch we like the wraps, which are served hot.
Vegetarian is the best, followed closely by the salmon and the chicken.
Amadeus: Service and good food
Amadeus is named after the famous composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
His style of working is the inspiration for this restaurant: Always perfection.
The food is looking and tasting just great. We had several things here on several occasions and were never disappointed.
Favorite Dish: Try the sate royal for lunch, and you don´t have to eat for a while.....
Gaudi: spanish with colors
Restaurant Gaudi specialises in spanish dishes. At the weekends there is a spanish buffet to choose from. And you can always choose to have tapas (small spanish dishes). Six tapas of your choose for a menu.
The design of the restaurant is inspired by Gaudi. Many flamboyant colored mosaics.
Delphi: Greek food like in Greece
Delphi is a great greek restaurant. Not only the atmosphere and the free drink (ouzo), but also the great food makes you feel like you are in Greece.
The service is good and fast.
It is a populair restaurant and when you want to go there during the weekend it is best to make reservations.
Latinos: Cuban food
The restaurant Latinos has some great Cuban / Spanish food. Their tapas plate is just unforgetable. You can choose between tapas with fish, meat or mixed. Beside that they have other dishes which are great.
The terrace is at the end (or beginning, depending where you come from) of the Grote Straat. The only down point is you have to order a meal when sitting at the terrace after 4pm. So if you are looking for a nice place to have a drink take another terrace in this street, there are some pubs too ;-)
Brakke Berg: lunch on the sunny terrace
After a walk along the Geul this is the perfect spot to have lunch or just a drink at their sunny terrace. We once stopped there when Gonnie came back from walking to Meerssen and Tom was cycling in the neighbourhood coming down from the village Berg. A good place to meet and have lunch together. The sandwich was good but the beer was a little bit expensive.
La Fleur: Cooking with flowers
At restaurant La Fleur the chef Pierre Schmetz cooks with flowers or flower extracts.
The restaurant is small and has a great atmosphere. The service is absolutely stunning. With every dish you get a full explanation of all the wonderful things that are in there.
The taste of the dishes we tried was great. The presentation was also one of the best in Valkenburg.
This restaurant is definitely on our list for next visits. If you do want to eat there in a weekend it is advisable to book a table because it is a small restaurant.
Lignano: another italian
In the main restaurant and barstreet De Grote Straat you will find a nice italian restaurant. The restaurant is nicely decorated with a huge wallpainting near the entrance.
We tried the 3 pastas for two. Three different pastas were brought to our table and altough we thought it were small dishes we could finish it all. The taste was different for all three, but there was one we liked the most: the pasta with cheese-tomato sauce.
After dinner Tom drank an espresso, but Gonnie don't like coffee and ordered a tea. To her surprise she had a choice of 84 different flavours. What a tough choice.....
Tivoli: A drink in the woods
Tivoli looks like a cottage from a fairytale, a wooden house in the forest. It is at the beginning of the the footpath along the Geul and a place where you can have a drink before you start walking or one to relax after you come back. Ofcourse they do serve food too.
eetcafe Plaza: tapas and other snacks
This eetcafe is also serving tapas. But we only tried their sandwiches for lunch along with a good beer ofcourse.
The sandwiches were delicious, and the terrace is small but extremely well placed looking out over the centre of Valkenburg and in the sun for the entire day.
Della Mamma: Italian
A good italian restaurant just outside of the busy centre of Valkenburg. It is located in a pedestration street.
The food was good and plenty. We both had a tomato soup, which was absolutely delicious. Tom then ordered a fish pizza and Gonnie had pasta with salmon. Both are to be recommended. For more ideas on the menu check the website of the restaurant.
China: Chinese indonesian
Another chinese restaurant is more specialized in buffets, availlable every weekend or on request for groups.
But you can also choose to order from the menu. The dishes we tried are good.
Favorite Dish: Buffet is not expensive and you can try everything.
Steakhouse & Balkan Restaurant Valkenhof: A great evening
Steakhouse & Balkan Restaurant Valkenhof is a fantastic restaurant located in the heart of Valkenburg. Here you can taste delishious Spanish, Balcan and Italian dishes served in an friedly and nice atmosphere. The ambience is very nice with reconstruction of Mediterranean views and architectures. Enjoy your meal!!
Favorite Dish: To eat in Steakhouse & Balkan Restaurant Valkenhof was a great experience. Here you can taste delicious Balkan, Spanish and Italian dishes. The house specialities are tapas (hot and cold) with a great choice. I can suggest to taste the Mexican menù: tomato soup; grilled skewers of meat with spicy sauce, chips and salad; dessert of the day and coffee.
I can suggest to try also the Sea Menù: grilled salmon with pasta with lobster sauce, French potatoes and salad; dessert of the day and coffee.

Bombarino: Be surprised by the chef
Bombarino is conveniently located at the corner of the Grote Straat and the Muntstraat. They have a large terrace outside, but the tables are set in a classy style.
They serve all kinds of food, but think of the upperclass restaurant food. Good beef of the best cattle around the world, the best pig you can find in Limburg (Livar) and seafood like lobsters.
Favorite Dish: As it is very difficult to choose from the extensive menu, we ordered a surprise menu.
The chef decides for you and also makes dishes that are not on the menu. Ofcourse you can exclude things you absolutely won't eat. Or just ask for a vegetarian surprise menu.
You can have a 3 course surprise menu for 40 Euros (2011 prizes).
The chef really surprised us. Everything tasted very good, the flavors were very special and combined just perfect.
't Berkelpoortje: Nice restaurant, delicious food & friendly service
Valkenburg counts plenty of restaurants; most of them proposing snacks, pizzas, Dutch tapas & touristic menus ...
But finding something GOOD, not touristic (i.e. noisy, expensive and tasteless) can't be difficult.
You can find the restaurant - 't Berkelpoortje - at only hundred meters from the main crowded 'restaurant' street. Unlike there you can enjoy here a calm and peaceful atmosphere.
The terrace was heated, which allowed to eat outside. (We went there for dinner in a somehow colder evening). The terrace counted something like 6 tables and there were a few more tables inside.
Though we noticed only one waiter, we enjoy the friendly and fluent service.
The food was maybe simple but very nice and well cooked and with good portions. (read below)
The prices were very moderate as well for the menu as for the drinks.
We'll definitely go back there!
Favorite Dish: There are different menus, from 16 eur- to 22 eur-.
The menu at 22 eur- was your own combination of a first, second course and dessert from the menu.
We choose for the menu at 16 which was really good; composed of a salad with chicken and bacon (first course), steack with pepper sauce (second course) and a chocolate mousse as dessert.
The food was maybe simple but very nice and well cooked and with good portions.
