Weert Travel Guide

The most important monument of Weert is the Saint Martin's Church on the Market square. The construction of the church started in the early 1400's. It is one of the few halls churches in the Netherlands.

Interesting is the interior with a baroque choir. Also interesting is a medieval sculpture of Saint Martin. Another site is the grave of the count of Horne, decapitated by the Spanish in 1566.

Unfortunately the upper part of the tower collapsed in 1941 in a storm. A new spire was built in 1960.

In the church mostly are some volunteers who know ecerything about the building and its history. They love to tell you everything, but I can not guarantee they all speak english.

This is great if you like a buffet but to us it wasn t as satisfying as it could have been.
Lots of food kids couldn t appreciate except for the obligated french fries with mayo or apple sauce.
Tables were placed too closely so when you went to fill your plate you had to wriggle your way to the tables.

Favorite Dish: Nothing springs to mind so it must have been just ordinary food, nothing special. Oh and for what we had to pay, well I was not satisfied! ;-)

The Oelemarkt square is a nice, ancient square in the old city of Weert. A lot of pubs and bars, visited by young people from the whole region.
By day (and when the weather is good) are there terraces, you can go in the bars at night.
Bars are open till after three o'clock on Saturday. Choose your favorite bar ther yourself; mine is 'Os Mam'.

Watch out: on weekdays everything closes very early! They don't even want to sell you cigarettes...

Dress Code: Fire arms and knives are forbidden. No alcohol under sixteen.
