Every summer Bergen op Zoom has its summerfestival. Every thursdaynight, in july and august, there is live music.
It all takes place in very relaxed surroundings: no entrance fees, no stands, just a big lawn, young and old, white and black, dancing together.
Every week a different band shows their skills: from rock to reggae, from jazz to merengue and from pop to blues.
The Wilhelminaveld is close to the Westersingel, the road behind the Gevangpoort. Walk to the north and you´ll automaticly hear the music.

The Heidetuin is one of the most beautiful pieces of Bergen op Zoom. It is a park in the forrest. It has a lot of hay and some very rare trees, a artificial lake and a wonderful forrest behind it.
In the weekends it can be crowded in the woods, because it is very popular under the local people. Straight behind the Heidetuin you´ll see a large piece of forrest with beech trees and at the left side of this part there is a wonderful open area in the forrest.
Go towards Het Appeltje (see my restaurant-tip) and cross the street. Here you´ll find plate with `Heidetuin` on it.

Around the villa you can make a nice walk and see the beauty of the garden of this place. It's not possible to visit the inside of the villa....... You can reach this place by car or bicycle, it's a few km to the south from the town centre.

anyone remotely fit should go cycling in holland
i have seen old fogeys cycling away on highways like tour de france contenders..
hence i had to take the challenge and with my good friend and fellow vter radhika, we ventured out on a 40km bike ride
it was an experience which i think i might do again but with a padded seat and ear muffs..
padded seat for the cycle and earmuffs to save the ears from the fellow vters constant mutterings.. ;)
tthe map i have attached...it was an extremely sceneic route..plantage which supposedly means nature trail..
we hired cycles - 6-7 euros a day from bergn op zoom and after much map readin and direction findin like 2 intrepid explorers we finally hit the trail..
i strongly suggest such an adventure for all people headed to the netherlands...

This is really an off the beaten path activity! If you want to see something special, then go to the carnival in Bergen op Zoom. All the people - baby's, kids, adults - are dressed in the traditional carnaval costume which means: a hat (this can be a regular hat or a lamp shade, whatever you want), a red handkerchief around your neck (the knot tied in front = very important!!), some curtains around your shoulders or waist and there you go.
TIP: be fit because this celebration lasts for 4 consecutive days. Be prepared to lots of beer also. :)

Bergen op Zoom is a place between woods and water !!!(take a look at the travelogue)
When you are at the trainstation you walk in less than 30 minutes to one of the woods OR to the water !!
So what you want to do ??? There is a lot possible...

You can make a lot of nice bicycle-tours is the area around Bergen op Zoom. There is a lot of wood, water and countryside to discover.....Please ask me if you want to. I can organize it for you !!

Visit the Carnaval in Bergen op Zoom.......Most of the time the real carnaval is in february, but the party starts a little bit earlier (3 weekends before) !!!!
