Don't Expect To Get Served When The Football's On!
When I arrived, in the middle of the Netherlands v Brazil 2010 World Cup quarter-final, the city was a bit of a ghost town. Everybody was jam-packed in the bars and hardly anyone out on the streets. The market traders had even brought their own televisions with them and about the only customers they seemed to be getting were those checking the action on the screens.
More an excuse just to use this pic than a serious tip - but remember, the Dutch do take their football seriously.

Junkies at the railway station
Once upon a time 's-Hertogenbosch had a nice railway station. It was a modest but very tasteful building. And because it was so modest and tasteful the railroad bosses, who were not so modest but very tasteless themselves, decided that something more 'prestigious' was to be build. The old station was demolished and a new one was created, the perfect place for junkies and drugsdealers to hang around and do their business. Now it's not a very nice place. Take good care of your belongings. Do not leave any bags open and be especially on your guard at the bottom end of the stairs. No need to panic, just leave this place, it's not worth looking at anyway, and live happily ever after.
