Donderdag 5 juni, EINDHOVEN - Volgens de bewoners van het huis in HOME zou er gisternacht een molotovcocktail op het dak zijn gegooid. De politie wilde dat gisteravond niet bevestigen. 'Het onderzoek is nog niet afgesloten', aldus een woordvoerder. Bij de brand in de Tramstraat gaat de politie wel uit van brandstichting. Daar zijn meerdere brandhaarden vastgesteld en zagen getuigen mensen wegrennen.
De dienstwoning op het terrein van HOME werd bewoond door een echtpaar dat onderhoudswerkzaamheden verricht in het museumdorp. De man en de vrouw konden zich tijdig in veiligheid brengen. Bij de brand raakte niemand gewond. Toen de brandweer arriveerde, was er nog maar een kleine brand onder de kap van het houten huis. Het vuur greep echter snel om zich heen in de rietlaag op het dak. Maar dat was voor de brandweer pas zichtbaar toen de vlammen uit het rieten dak naar buiten sloegen. Pogingen om de brand in de woning te bestrijden, moest de brandweer dan ook al snel opgeven. Bewoners en hulpverleners hebben nog geprobeerd enkele bezittingen uit het huis te halen. Daarna viel het huis snel ten prooi aan het vuur dat de woning verwoestte.
Andere gebouwen op het terrein hebben volgens de brandweer geen gevaar gelopen. Ook een groep van 32 kinderen en begeleiders, die elders op het terrein de nacht doorbrachten, zijn niet in gevaar geweest. Een schuur met gereedschap, pal achter de brandende woning, is door de brandweer nat gehouden om het overslaan van de brand te verhinderen.

You can see what daily life was like during the Iron Age. Animals are rummaging about, people in prehistoric clothing are working in around their houses. You can particpate in activities like eating and sleeping like they did in the Iron Age, sailing in a tree-trunk (dug out canoe), learning Iron Age Skills like baking bread, forging iron, spinning wool, and making things from bones.

Life the prehistoric life in the Historic Open Air Museum in Eindhoven.

We did so at a VT meeting in april 2004. You can see how much fun it was in our travelogues.

In the museum is there are two areas. One is the mediaeval village of Endehoven depicting life about 500 to 700 years ago. The other is the prehistoric village Eversham, about 750 - 50 BC.

You can just get a tour, discover the museum on your own, or stay the night and live like your ancestors.

Historisch Openluchtmuseum Eindhoven

A very nice small open air museum on the southside of Eindhoven. Nice built prehistorical houses and medieval houses as the were found in the Netherlands in that specific period of time.

It is totally runned by volunteers, who just love to take part in medieval or prehistorical life.

One can visit this museum in approx. 2 hrs. or longer. But definately worth visiting.

From april to end oktober daily from 10.00 till 17.00 hrs.
From november to march only on sundays.

Historical-open-air-museum !!!

This is a smal but very beautifull place just 10 minutes walking from the busy city centre.
Too me it's a special place because i work here, but it really is nice.
The museum is a reconstruction of an iron-age village and a piece of medieval eindhoven. You can see people in historical clothes work and live here. Well worth a visit, especially when there are events happening, like a viking-weekend or a roman day. There are several programs which you can book in advance. Must see if you like history, free guided tour each day at 14:00 !!
