Park and walk
Heusden is only about 10 minutes by car from 's-Hertogenbosch. Drive on the A59 towards Waalwijk and take exit 42 towards Heusden. Just follow the signs from there.
The town is very small: on the map the distance from the western gate to the eastern gate is only about 600 metres. You can also see the beautiful star-shaped outline of the old fortifications. The little islands are off-limits but you can walk along all the other parts of them. All three roads leading into the town have parking areas just before the town gates.
MAJOR TIP! Most visitors seem to insist on parking inside the walled town and pay for it. But outside the city walls are a few large parking areas where parking is free and you can easily stroll into town from there!
Drove by car to get there, but walk to get around.
This village is small enough to walk around in. I don't think you can drive into the village unless you live there anyway. You park outside and walk into town. That's the impression I remember and frankly, it was nice to walk about without the traffic!
The picture has the only cars in town that I remember, but I'm sure there were others... the little squashed back ended car just attracked my attention, LOL! But I was also always fascinated by the way they trained the trees to grow like what you see behind the parked cars. It's still early spring and the leaves arn't out yet, but when they do, they provide shade. Fascinating!
