  • 013 Music Certre: Cool Place for Great Music in centre of Tilburg

    by Ogham44 Written Oct 9, 2011

013 is the premier spot in Tilburg or that matter in the whole of Noord Brabant for up to date
music and the very best of home grown and International bands.
I have been there on a number of occasions to listen to some of the best modern bands in the World.
Great quality beer served at this venue.

013 Music Hall/Pop Centre: Music is in the air

Near the City Centre there is a great pop centre. It offers a wide variety of concerts (a few examples from the past years: Marilyn Manson, Nick Cave, Train, No Doubt, Heather Nova to name a few). It attracts people from neighbouring countries as well. It's the largest music hall outside the 'Randstad' (A'dam, Rotterdam, the Hague area). If you are in Tilburg and want to have a evening/night out, look for a good concert in 013.

Dress Code: No dress code, but take in mind when you visit specific concerts that there's an 'unofficial' dress code

    013 music hall: 013

The biggest music temple of southern Holland can be found in Tilburg. Every week there are some performances here, from very small, to very big and from all kinds of artists. The building is called after the phonenumbers of Tilburg: they all start with the digits "013". It looks like the inside of a music studio from the outside: with black foam fastened with huge nails.

Inside there are three halls: the biggest one has a capacity of 2.200 people, and the two smaller ones can take 350 and 150 people. I visited 013 twice so far because of performances of the reggae bands Steel Pulse and Israel Vbration. Tickets are never very expensive: about 25 euro's maximum.

Dress Code: Any clothes are allowed, coins have to be bought to get drinks inside and because you are in Holland: marihuana is allowed inside...

    013 Popcentrum Tilburg, I have...

013 Popcentrum Tilburg, I have been here several times for a concert, but never took any pic, so this pic below is taken from the web
In the heart of the city of Tilburg, The Netherlands a prominent building has sprung up. Located on the Veemarktstraat, in the near vicinity of the entertainment district, both the inside and the outside of the complex are of an amazing beauty.

Dress Code: 013 offers something for everybody. The emphasis will be put on confronting and challenging programmes with possibilities for (groups of) people to make a contribution. 013 stands for dynamics and a permanent interaction between audience and (amateur) musicians.
013 appeals to all lovers of popmusic from The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and, in time, the whole of Europe. Quality, public opinion and affordability are of great importance.
013 will grow into a centre in which some 400 activities with an expected amount of 200.000 visitors will be organised each year. The programme will consist of local as well as national and international well known artists and bands.
A broad variety of new sounds, musical veterans, chartbusters, underground bands, local talents, experimental encounters, young musicians, multi-media, festivals and inter-disciplinary cross-overs, you name it. Dance in all it’s shapes and forms, meet and greet in the café, cyberspace and of course loads and loads of music.

For live music Tilburg has 013. Until a few years ago we had Noorderligt which had some fame outside the country as well and had a much more imaginative (read: much less commercial) booking policy. At least once a month I'd go there. My first concert here was Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel in 1989. Last concert was Motörhead in October 1998, which was the very last gig in this place before it closed. I was suffering from food-poisoning that night but still didn't want to miss my chance to say goodbye to this special place. I did spent much time on the toilet though. Oh, the memories. Oh, the pain.

But they had to replace it, didn't they? In the centre 013 was built. An ugly building with several halls and stages and the biggest of its kind in the Netherlands. Inside it's not so bad. But unfortunately 013 simply books the same popular bands every year and throws in a few more or less interesting bands in between, although many of these acts are eventually cancelled anyway. I have only been to 013 once in the past four years (Peter Hammill in 2000). Even the beer is worse now, with Kroon being replaced by that awfull Heineken. Oh man, and they have a hall sponsored by Pepsi named The Choice. How good can that possibly be?

Okay, I guess I just wasn't made for these times....

Anyway, watch the posters for announcements, or visit the website (English version available).

Dress Code: No real code, but it is advisable to wear a t-shirt, perhaps with some clothes you can take off easily and leave at the wardrobe. It's hot inside!
