These bicycles are parked at the University, but I have never seen so many at one time before. Not even at the University I work for in Cambridge, MA. This is only a few! Notice the bag being used as a quick way of "spotting" your own bike? At least, I think that's what it is being used for.

In Tilburg, you can do everything by foot. If you are lazy, you can take a taxi ;-) Just joking… The easiest way to visit the "Efteling" is the camper on the train station. You can buy tickets there for the buss including entrance tickets to the park so you do not need to wait on the ticket-window at the entrance. It is just a 10 - 15 minutes drive with the bus, depending on the traffic… You can also find info and tickets there about the Beekse Bergen, a sort of safari park, but then in the Netherlands…

From Belgium, the best way to visit Tilburg is by bus when you leaving from my hometown Turnhout. Even you are on another place in Belgium, its best to take the train to Turnhout and travel further with bus 45 also known in my town as 'the drug-bus'. This bus trip cost you only 40 minutes, and if you want to take the train straight to Tilburg you have to travel to Amsterdam first. It is a long and unnecessary detour. Every hour (26 minutes after each hour) there is an arriving train in Turnhout. You have a connection to Tilburg 34 minutes after every hour on the train station. Further information you find on this (only Dutch) web page. If you cannot find the bus, ask someone where the bus 45, also popularly called 'the drug-bus' is waiting. Why we called the drug-bus? As long as I know, young people using this bus to buy soft drugs in the coffee shops in Tilburg. In retarded Belgium is every kind of selling drugs still forbidden. Against the tolerant Netherlands, this is a big contrast. Please, do not misunderstand. Not all people on this bus are drug users! Smoking on the bus is not permit either ;-) For the people who want to visit Tilburg from another city in the Netherlands, the best way is the train. For more information, visit this web page.

  • One of things I found very effective in the Tilburg area was the public transport, be it bus or train. If you want to catch a bus or train check the timetable, whatever time it states the bus/train is due, most of the time it will arrive at the time - unlike the UK !

Tilburg has two train stations. The central station is located near the city centre. From Tilburg station you can travel to every (major) place in the Netherlands. From the central stations you can also take a taxi or a bus to other parts of the city or the surrounding area (such as the popular amusement parks 'the Efteling' and 'de Beekse Bergen').

The other train station is located in Tilburg West. This station is near the university (University of Tilburg) and where you will find most student accommodations. It’s located about 10 minutes walking distance from the university.

The first station was openend at October 5, 1863 and was remodelled three times in the course of time.
