I really hate to say it, but Tilburg is one of the most criminal cities of the country. That's sad. Perhaps it's even sadder that we got used to it, until we finally had enough and moved to Belgium. Just before we left there were street-robberies every day, and perhaps a murder every week. I don't get the impression things are much better now. Don't worry about getting murdered, it's quite unlikely to happen, but be on your guard for robberies, which can get violent. Especially mobile phones are a popular target, and so are scooters. You'll be safe at night in the centre, but less so in the neighbourhoods outside it. Parks are a no-go at nights.

Holland is a country of bikes. Most people have at least two and mostly the oldest one is used in town. Like any other town in the Netherlands theft of bikes is a major problem. So if you rent a bike make sure you've got a good lock, especially when you go to a cafe (pub) in the evening/night. Without a good lock you can be sure that you will have to walk back!

Busdrivers in Tilburg drive like madmen. As soon as they're at the wheel they feel like they're kings of the world. They'll threathen you with their busses and make extremely clear that they are big and you are small. This behaviour is, of course, the result of the fact that each and everyone of them is marriaged to a wife who's much more of a man than they are and beats them up every Tuesday. And there's no use in complaining. I know, I've complained lots of times and never received an answer.
