The Alkmaar Kaasmarkt (Cheese market). During the summer the traditional cheese trading is being performed. You also can visit the cheese museum, which houses the local tourist office too.
Btw the picture is in reality a playable postcard; notice the hole in the center.
You find the old weighing-house on the Waagplein. It was built in the 14th century. The Holland Cheese Museum is located on the second and third floors of the building and the tourist information office is on the ground floor.
The famous cheese market is right here on Waagplein.
.
It is a lively open-air cheese market where you can take a glimpse of the famous round cheeses being weighed and whisked away using a gondola-shaped wooden barrows. It is staged during summer months at 10am every Friday before the public weighing station.
The cheese market is a great place to visit on a Saturday. There are also tons of cheese shops in town that are a dream for someone like me. Just give my a crusty bread and cheese and I'm happy.
Don't forget to buy some of excellent cheeses. I would reccomend "Oud Alkmaar", one of the best holland cheeses I have ever tried.
