Elisabeth and I only took one excursion outside of Amsterdam and that was to the Floriade. This wonderous horticultural extravaganza was just amazing. Flowers from all over the world were on display and breathaking gardens where created throughout the grounds. This place was so big we didn't make it to all the attractions within the park. For anyone going to the Netherlands in the near future. Make an effort to go to the Floriade while it lasts. This event only occurs every 10 years. Granted, I didn't get to see the Windmills of the Netherlands but they will be there next year, the Floriade will not!
Our trip of the Netherlands was concentrated on Amsterdam and Hoofddorp which is the town nearest the Floriade. Enjoy my pages.
The Tulip garden at Keukenhof is one of the most serene and romantic place I have visited so far. Here you can find Tulips of all varieties and also buy bulbs and plants and books on flowers. the garden is pretty big and takes almost an hour or two depending on your love for flowers. The Tulip fields are nereby which produces for Export.
There is also a big lake inside and everything is well maintained and clean. Please check my profile for the link to mu home page where you will find many pictures of Tulips from this Garden.
Fondest memory: For anyone who loves flowers - this garden should be a must in your list of places. Please check the timie you are visiting as Tulips are generally found from May till September only.
I love Tulips. Period.
When my best friends from school and I first started going out on dates with the opposite sex (yes, I'm a late bloomer!), roses were the "di rigeur " thing we received from the boys - trying to impress us girls.
Unfortunately for that boy who was paired off with me, my silly giddygoose girlfriends had to spoil it all by exclaiming: "Oh... but she only likes Tulips!"
So when I first arrived in the Netherlands, can you imagine the delight on my face when I saw sooo many different varieties of tulips! There were violet, shocking pink, orange, red... mixed colors... tutti frutti ;-p It was amazing! You see, in Singapore, we don't get such a wide array of tulips to choose from. You either take the white tulips or the dark purple ones or the pink tulips. Not much choices to choose from.
Whether you are a tulip fan or not, KEUKENHOF GARDENS is a must-see.
Those colorful tulips will surely win you over soon enough....
the flower farm
The flower in Keukenhof is grown as crop in such a big farm, a colorful farm. :)
Then I got the answer why Netherlands can export flowers as a kind of product.
Near the town of Leiden, the Keukenhof, the world's largest garden is really impressive, especially while the tulips are blooming.
Its beauty is something of an enigma, combining nature's talents with artificial precision to create a garden where millions of bulbs - tulips, daffodils and hyacinths - bloom beautifully for everyone. It's really an amazing experience being the centre of the *the Sea of Flower*. Everybody, whatever his age, will be as happy as a kid.
Of course, all these depend on your arriving dates. (The tulips bloom in vary dates each year!)
If You are traveling to Amsterdam the latest weekend ind April, don`t forget to visit Haarlem, 20 km from Amsterdam, and the worlds most bigest and famous flowerpark nearby Lisse, Keukenhof. It is a MUST! And You will never forget it!
