There are many good museums in Amsterdam. The major ones are around Museumplein. The more popular and recommended museums, but not limited to, are Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk museum.
so much for the eye to see in amsterdam, there is literally something amazing everywhere you look. a statue misplaced in a park, amazing designs on rooftops. look around you'll see a lot.
Fondest memory: i saw something new everyday i walked past the rijksmuseum which was nearly everyday. this musuem's architecture is so amazing and breathtaking!
my favorite thing about amsterdam is the fact that i truly felt free while there, this had nothing to do with the fact that i was on vacation. this city had a calming effect on me and my fiance, at no point during our trip did i think about al queda attacks, or any negativity for that matter. it was like the world was on hold for 11 days, and we were just enjoying what life had to offer.
Fondest memory: im personally going to miss all but the red light district, that's the only part of amsterdam that makes me feel uncomfortable. we weren't approached by to many drug dealers or beggers, in fact we only were approached in the red light by these types. even then a firm NO usually did the trick.i was especially drawn to the rijks museum, it has more culture and history than all of las vegas combined. that place was a magnet for me, anytime we were near i was taking a new picture of it. the museum it's self was breathetaking, we spent a couple of hours there oohing and ahhhing.
Favorite thing: pay a visit to the palatial Rijksmuseum located at Museumplein. Please note that most of the museums are closed on Mondays, including the Rijksmuseum. Here, you can see a vast number of priceless art collection including Rembrandt's famous masterpiece - 'Night Watch' which an acid thrower tried to destroy in 1990.
visit the Rijksmuseum. One of Europes greatest museum. Plenty of famous Flemish paintings on display here. Rembrandt's the Nightwatch is the one to see.
Fondest memory: The coffeeshops here are unique. You will be in a different world.
Rijksmuseum has the country's best collection of modern and contemporary Dutch art. The best of the country's artistic and cultural heritage together under a single roof.
That's really a massive museum, and seems impossible looking around everything in one go!
visit the Rijksmsueum which is set in its historic home designed by P.J.H. Cuypers, houses the largest collection of art and history in the Netherlands. The museum has an internationally renowned collection based around the paintings of the seventeenth-century Dutch Republic, the Golden Age, including twenty works by Rembrandt, four by Vermeer and numerous other paintings by artists such as Frans Hals and Jan Steen. Displayed at the very heart of the museum is Rembrandt’s Night Watch. But the museum houses more than just paintings: there are superb collections of silver, delftware, doll’s houses, prints, drawings, the mysterious Asiatic art and a recent completely renovated presentation on Dutch history. Works of art on paper, prints and drawings and since 1996 the photographic collection, are shown four times a year in different exhibitions.
