Amsterdam is chock-full of great artwork and no other single museum is more impressive than the Rijksmuseum. If you're interested in the Dutch masters, this is the place to go. However, there are also more obscure museums to explore like the Sex Museum, the Hash Museum and many more.
Check this site out for more info on some of the more art-oriented museums.
It is the first and only sex museum that I have seen in Europe on Damrak 18. It has exhibits from the Roman era, and from all over the world including Greece, Japan, India and China. There's also a collection of paintings, figurines, comic strips, and thousands of pornographic photos from around the world. They even have a porno flick from the 1930's playing. There are a few coin-operated machines housed in booths, perhaps showing some pornographic scenes. I dunno cos I never try.
It is certainly an eye opener... Definitely not suitable for the innocent minded kids.
Favorite thing: I think having a Sex Museum in one country is unique. Here, you will discover tons of amazing porn photos, both olds and news! some materials on exhibit, miniatures in different positions, and the statue of 'Marilyn Monroe' in wax.
OK, so maybe it's a little tacky, but you CAN'T go to Amsterdam and NOT have your picture taken sitting on 'the seat' at the Sex Museum. You'll know what I mean. Lighten up and have a little fun!
Fondest memory: Getting lost trying to find where we parked the car: We had great fun checking out the house-boats and window shopping while trying to remember where the car was! Amsterdam is definitely a city for strolling.
Well known for its world class art museums, Amsterdam also has some of the most unique museums in the world.
For instance, interested in the torture museums? If you’ve had your fill of art museums, you’ll never find a more complete collection of torture and punishment instruments from the inquisition chair to the guillotine. It is the perhaps the perfect place to take your children when they are misbehaving.
The Jewish Historical Museum is a combination of four former Jewish synagogues that have been transformed into the Amsterdam Jewish Museum. The permanent collection tells the story of Dutch Jewry and there is a kosher café as well as a well-stocked bookstore.
The Filmmuseum is the place for film fanatics. The sumptuous Art Deco Theatre shows ancient movies. It has the world’s most complete archive of the early film industry.
There is an Erotic Museum. The first floor is the best. The most popular piece is an amusing sculpture of a woman pedaling a bike that delivers a delightful bonus surprise. Nearby is The Sex Museum.

Probably the most unique tour is a Behind the Scenes Tour of the Red Light District. Rob van Hulst, native and expert of the red-light district, presents the entire red-light area as a living museum, commenting on the history of the area’s development and taking you into the trendiest places. He is the only tour guide licensed for the red light district. And I know you are wondering how does a man get a job like that.
Amazing Amsterdam offers things not available anywhere else in the world

Fondest memory: Coming out of Centraal Station and feeling that vibe that surrounds life in Amsterdam....
