    Adult Spot: Sex Shows!

The Cassa Rosso, just near the cock and balls fountain. A live sex show. If you're open minded, go in for a laugh. Its part and parcel of Amsterdam. We sneaked down the front seats for the best view and got squirted by a monkey with a suspicious fluid. Hmmm. Avoid the front seats. Some sex shows even have audience participation if you're 'up for it'. Excuse the pun.

Dress Code: A cushion, if you're a bloke.

Holland is famous for its nightlife. No, better rephrase that: Amsterdam is famous for its nightlife. The provincial towns on a wet Tuesday in January certainly don't rival Bangkok. Come to think of it, Amsterdam on a wet Tuesday in January doesn't really have a lot going for it either. The redlight district makes people titter and giggle when it's mentioned, but it's generally overrated as a tourist attraction. It's all a bit sad, really. Or is it just that old Cliffie is just too old to care any more?

Adult Spot: Sex Cinemas & Saunas

THERMOS DAY- Contrary to another tip posted here, Thermos Day is very clean (yes, of COURSE wear flip flops!). No matter when you go, the men are extraordinary. Each time I've gone I couldn't believe that an American lad NOT Dutch appearing (tall, lanky, thin, huge-hung) was coupling with the stuff of dreams and calendars. They feature a hot tub, swimming pool, lunch room, hair salon (and the two times I've gone for haircuts, both were brilliant!), labywrinths, private cabins, sex cinema and more.

THERMOS NIGHT- Cruisier and more intense than the day version, and also smaller.

BOOMERANG- This Warmostraat sauna is much smaller than the Thermos saunas. It's well located, but offers little more (if anything) than the many labywrinths at the sex clubs on the same street, such as Cock Ring, Eagle, Dirty Dicks, etc. Less men, less choice, less play space.

DRAKES- Advertised as "Glory hole heaven", Drakes is precisely that... 3 banks of multiple private video cabins plus one tiny place space in the back, usually empty even at peak times. This is all about glory hole blowjobs. With so much syphillis making its way through the Amsterdam sex scene, it is probably only a good idea if you intend to be on the *** end of these couplings (not the mouth end).

4 MEN- Several couches & some darker seating in the back of a 1 room sex cinema. Mostly for jackoffs. Mostly older men. If you're into putting on a wank show, this is ok.

LE SALON- Video cabins, some with glory holes, lots of steep, windy stairs between sections, & mostly straight porn (an oddity, given the place is named for William Higgins, gay porn producer). Most booths have glory holes. You can also stand behind darkened glass in a dark room and have your bits sticking out through a glory hole into the cinema.

ADONIS- On the Warmostraat, this sex cinema is mostly 1 large cinema, although there is a dark room behind the screen. Comfy couches, mix of sex tourists. Mostly JO show & tell. Nonetheless, this is the one I had the most fun in, on 2 occasions.

I've heard different opinions about this place before I finally got to visit it. And not only that! I even spent 3 nights in a hotel in the very heart of the district! What can I say? Well, it's not for everybody but I kind of enjoyed the experience. I somehow prefer dodgy places to the poshy ones. It's true that there are some strange individuals horsing around but generally I don't check people out and avoid eye-contact, so I wasn't disturbed by anybody. Plus, I was with my boyfriend.
What I liked was a variety of people and dress codes, good restaurants, interesting architecture. What I disliked: rubbish lying around on the streets, the persistent smell of Ganja was getting on my nerves, but the biggest dissapointment was the fact that the dick fountain had been removed from the entrance to the Casa Rosso Theatre. Outrageous! ;-)
Warning: don't be tempted to take pictures of the working 'girls' and keep a keen eye on your belongings, as always, as anywhere else in the world.

Dress Code: Whatever you wish. Anything goes here. Coat and Tie not required :)

The Casa Rossa was a valu for money night out. My first time in any strip/ entertainment club and it was very entertaining and in good taste. The "artists" were in good shape and partirculary the hunky, black man with the rythem of a jet engine. Also saw another show in the Moulin Rouge which was silly and anything but a turn on.

Dress Code: Smart casual. Anything goes.

Red Light District - Look for the red lights

Just ask the hotel or taxi where the Red Light District is, and they'll be happy to help.
It's a great place to people watch.

The alleyways are very narrow. The doors are almost wood frames with a huge glass window, so you can see what is being advertized. When the curtain is across the window, that means they are either closed for the night, away, on break, or 'busy'.

Do not try to take pictures of them, or they'll take your camera and throw it in the canal.

The red light district was certainly somewhere to see! It was a complete shock to me, if im honest! I went to Amsterdam with my boyfriend which I wouldn't reccommend. I found it funny and bizarre at first, however I did become uncomfortable after awhile. I was also quite nervous about my belongings. Every second person asked us if we wanted drugs, it was quite intimidating and I was pretty paroniod. The tourists seem to take over. There are a lot of hen and stag parties and general drug abusers floating about. Everywhere you look is seedy and grotesque. To me, it was a circus of destructiveness. Imagine all the negative elements in society thrown into this one district...I believe it attracts a very destructive energy. It is also an extremly expensive city.....I would be weary about what Im spending my money on...the flashy lights are a complete con!!!

Dress Code: Wear whatever you want!!! There are no rules on the doors. As long as you have the cash you can buy your way into anywhere. But it is a trendy city so perhaps comfy and bohemian if you are bothered!!!

In contrast to the recommendations of other VT's about the RLD, I didn't find the area unsecure. It was a rainy evening and not so crowded when I got there, so even though I was travelling alone,no drug dealer approached me (maybe business is down on rainy nights ;)) or maybe the police were through some clean up mission, cause I saw a police officer questioning someone who seemed to be suspicious in one of the less crowded areas. But anyway keep on the safe side; I dont want to get blamed if any of you VTs get in trouble!

Fantastic experience! If people come up to badger you reg'd anything they are trying to sell, just politely say no thanks and keep walking. If you stop and they think you are interested, thats when they may follow you for a bit trying to sell!

It's great to just walk around and people watch in Amsterdam, the Red Light District is full of all walks of life. From the dodgy drug pushers, to the family tourists giggling at the girls in the windows. It is a pretty safe area with a large police presence around and plenty of CCTV to keep an eye on everything. Can be a bit seedy for some people but I like it, I could sit and people watch here all day. Be sure not to take pictures of the girls in this area though, you could get your camera smashed up! I tried to get a few pics from a bar across the road which was ok but definitely dont try and stand in front of the window and do it.

Dress Code: Anything goes (literally) but try just to stay low key.

Ahhh... Amsterdam... where your deepest, darkest fantasies can be fulfilled. A racy place like the Red Light District isn't really for me, but if one were so inclined, there are forbidden fruits abound. Sex shows - a man and woman doing sexual acrobatics on stage - are everywhere. Prostitutes stand in windows and are marked by a red light above the door; they often chat it up with potential customers eyeballing their wares. Like coke? This take a stroll in the district and one of its many dealers are sure to approach you. Lastly, coffeeshops are all over the place, and the smell of reefer often drifts out to the streets.

try spotting babes!! no way.. its not allowed

The place is just amazing and for lotta Asians this can be eyepopping experience.
This is Amsterdam's world famous red light district or RLD in short where female flesh is a la carte behind the windows - a feature peculiar to Netherlands. This area is located along two old canals - the Oudezijds Achterburgwal and Oudezijds Voorburgwal.
It has actually become part of the local culture
and one can find people walk along - at times with
families with obvious high eyebrows. Taking
pictures is a big no here.

Dress Code: Anything goes.. though more often than not its cool/cold in here so u canot be too skimply dressed.. though after coming out of one fo the 'blue/red rooms' or the adult theateres u might need to fold up or remove the jacket as it really gets HOT
