De Still, Amsterdam
This is a very special little brown bar in Amsterdam. It's little, maybe seats 25 people but they carry around 300 different kinds of whiskey - and this is where I spent 4-5 evenings a week. This was 'my' bar.
Along the wall opposite to the bar there are 30 or so little lockers with a little blackboard with people names. If you're a regular and you order a bottle you can put it in one of the lockers (there's a waiting time though). When you come in to have a drink you just ask for your key and a couple of glasses.
They don't serve any food; but surely you only come here if you love whiskeys. My favourite among others were: Dallas Dhu and 1972 Linkwood.
A word of caution: first, they don't carry any blended whiskey, apart from the house brand Grant, so don't bother to order a Blue Label.
Secondly, and more importantly, if you order any of their single malt, never ask for it to be "On the rocks"; for they WILL throw you out.
Whiskycafè De Still, the ultimate place for whisky lovers!
This small and cozy whiskycafè offers close to 500 different whiskys!
The staff are very friendly and know their whisky well so I usually ask them to recommend something new on the basis of what I usually like to drink.
Have a look at the small cabinets along the wall where regulars keep their special bottles.
