I was greeted by a somewhat standoffish hostess at Vienna Massage. I suspect her slight reserve was due to the fact that she doesn't receive very many female clients. I explained that a friend recommended Vienna and that I was interested in receiving a massage. She immediately ushered me into a side bedroom. She warned me that not many of the masseuses were comfortable with women clients. Again, I felt a disapproving vibe. I was about to offer to leave when she gave me a surprisingly warm smile and said that I was under no obligation -- I would meet the masseuses and then I would be free to leave if there was no "click". She gave me a brief explanation of the rates: the establishment charges a room rental rate and then the masseuse is paid a separate fee based on negotiated services. Before I had a chance to ask any questions, she whisked away to see which masseuse were available for female clients. There was a fairly long delay. While waiting, I examined the bedroom. It was nicely appointed. There were several lights set on two dimmer switches; potpourri accents were scattered around. There was a separate standing shower and then a deep, black marble bathtub with candles. The bed was large and with a fluffy pillowtop mattress. Easy listening music came through on nice speakers set high up in the ceiling. Eventually, a masseuse came down. She smiled, uttered her name, and scurried away. Two other masseuses repeated the procedure. They were neither friendly nor unfriendly; they had a businesslike air. All were pretty, but not notably so. I didn't "click" with the three masseuses. When I explained this to the hostess, she was instantly solicitous. She apologized for the limited selection. She said there wasn't a special time when there were more masseuses available, but I was welcome to check back as frequently as I liked. I left feeling well treated even though I hadn't achieved my purpose of receiving a massage.

Note: This tip is a contribution from a family friend who accompanied us to Amsterdam. Amsterdam is famous for its splashy live sex shows, such as the Casa Rosso. Naturally, then, some people wonder where one can find a gay sex show. The unfortunate news is that, for now, there appear to be no gay sex shows in Amsterdam. There used to be a well-known bar/brothel/live sex theater all rolled into one, which went under the names of "Why Not?" and "Blue Boy." Unfortunately, the club has been closed by the Amsterdam police in April 2006. (Though the club is closed, its web site is still intact and can be viewed at http://www.whynot.nl.) While Amsterdam is a very sexually liberated city, it does not offer gay/bi men the same expanse of amenities that it offers straight tourists. I.e., there are no gay sex shows, there are no gay massage parlors, and there are no men standing behind glass panes in the Red Light District. For those who want to see live gay sex, there are still a few options. The best option is to book two male escorts to perform a show in your hotel room. Even though it is not the most common demand, the escorts will gladly accommodate the request. Besides the privacy, this option also offers you the chance of directing or customizing the show. (Note: if you don't want to participate, you must make that quite clear at the time of booking. It's not usually a spectator sport.) Alternatively, you can go to a gay bar on one of the sex-themed nights. There won't be a scheduled sex show, but patrons will definitely be having sex. (Again, it may be tricky to avoid becoming a participant!) A schedule of sex-themed nights is printed in GayAmsterdam, a magazine that is definitely worth picking up. Finally, check the peep shows. When I was there, one establishment had a charming Spanish gentleman who was willing to perform a steamy solo show in a private viewing booth for a negotiated price.
No dress code for the escorts or the peep shows, of course. For the sex-themed nights at the bars, clothing may be restricted or disallowed. Each bar comes up with its own rules; call to confirm. Leave a Comment Theme: Adult SpotDirections: Bar addresses are in GayAmsterdam, a magazine provided free at most gay establishments. People Male Escorts (http://www.peoplemale.nl) is one of Amsterdam's premier gay escort agencies. Peep shows are on the main canals in the Red Light District.

This tip is provided by our family friend. Thermos is a well-advertised pair of bathhouses in Amsterdam, consisting of a "day sauna" and a "night sauna." They're right around the corner from each other; the principal difference, as the names suggest, is that the day sauna closes in the evening, while the night sauna just opens around that time and remains open until the next morning. If you've ever been to a bathhouse before, you probably already know what Thermos is like. But for those of you who haven't, take notice: Thermos is about sex. Instant, nameless, (often speechless) anonymous sex. While the facilities seem akin to a spa or fitness center, those accommodations are merely a backdrop for sex. In fact, Thermos provides condoms, lubrication, pornography, and dark little booths throughout the premises. Saunas are not for the faint of heart! Social interactions are very direct -- if someone is interested in you, he is more likely to get your attention by grabbing your sensitive bits than by smiling or using a pick-up line. There's also physical evidence of all these sexual encounters, especially in the form of unidentified fluids on the floor. (I strongly recommend wearing flip-flops!) I originally went to Thermos in the hopes of being able to watch public sexual encounters, since Amsterdam no longer offers gay sex shows. Ultimately, though, I found the atmosphere too crude and intimidating. It's not really designed for those who want to stand back and observe. Even though I very clearly communicated my desire not to have sex, some of the patrons nonetheless pressured me to do so (including, in one instance, physically pinning me against a wall for a brief time).
If the above doesn't scare you away, by all means, go, and have a good time! There's a wide range of clientele, including many hot guys. There are also a variety of kinks and preferences openly displayed. The day and night saunas have the same type of environment, though I found the day sauna to be actually more sexually aggressive than the night sauna. Personal possessions are not allowed beyond the locker room, you are required to strip and put on only a single white towel on entry so dress code doesn't apply here. As mentioned above, bring flip-flops. Also consider bringing earplugs -- I've never found ubiquitous, pounding dance music sexy, and it gave me a real headache in this particular location. Play safe! Anything goes CLEARLY *Update 2007* Looks like the bar has changed name, changed hands & more then likely clientelle as it seems to advertise English sport. Perhaps head towards Zeedijk street for another gay friendly bar Leave a Comment Theme: Other

ARC totally fits in the lounge rage that hit European shores a few years ago. And although the lazy Sundays where French artists like Air, St.Germain and Dimitri from Paris featured prominently on the sound systems are long gone, ARC still remains a firm favourite with the gay and straight scene alike. Its secret? A healthy blend of good food and drinks in sleek sourroundings. Do not miss daily happy hour (5pm-7pm) when cocktails are only €5 each! This one is recommended for its hip clientele and is great for an early-evening snack, a casual gathering of friends or lazy Sunday cocktail-sipping. ARC has been my favourite bar for a good while now and I'm sure it's going to stay that way for quite another while.

A bit expensive but normal for Amsterdam standards ! A lot of cute guys, especially tourists, a lot of queers, asian boys and muscle marry's ! There is something for everyone's taste. Ans if u cant wait to go back to your hotelroom there is always the darkroom on the topfloor !! make sure u don't lose your wallet. There is a room with dutch and eurovision music, one with club/house/trance, one with R&B and one with rap/hiphop.

By the Eden Hotel, off the river Amstel is the GAY area of town. The guys there told me they hated be called GAY, but the FAG was better. I have the best night out with them, and am still in contact with one even to this day.

Get an English-style bar, place it in what is still the main gay street of Amsterdam and add a diverse mix of patrons. Sounds like you'd visit a watering hole that sticks out like a sore thumb, right? Nope, Soho actually achieves to mix the olde-world posh library-style place with the good-looking guests quite effortlessly. Great place to visit for quiet weekday drinks or busy weekend parties alike!
Just put some nice gear on, for crying out loud! :) Leave a Comment

This is a large three-in-one: grand-cafe during the day, where you can have a late breakfast, lunch, sip a coffee and read the papers, a restaurant during the evening, and a trendy bar at night, when the reading table collapses into the floor to form a dance floor. Predominantly gay public. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingAddress: Reguliersdwarstraat 44Phone: (020) 689 70 70Directions: City center. Close to De munt and the Vijzelstraat.
