Paradiso is mainly known as a venue for live music but during the weekend it sometimes hosts club nights with local and international DJ's and occasional live acts. See the program on their website www.paradiso.nl
Paradiso is located in a former church, the interior has high ceilings and a balcony overlooking the stage area, with three large illuminated church windows above the stage.

We saw two Irish bands, BelX1 and The Frames here at Paradiso. Tickets were 20E, but like all music venues in Nl it seems that you have to buy membership to them as well as purchasing your ticket. At Paradiso membership costs 3E for a month long ticket.
Dress Code: Anything.. but even when dressed casually, Amsterdammers are quite trendily stylish, so dress according to the gig you are attending I guess.

One of the greatest places where one can go to a concert in Amsterdam is Paradiso. This remarkable place (it used to be a church!) has great accoustics and a wonderful set up. The stage is always close and only a few thousand people fit into the place. This means quite personal concerts from still great artists. On the other hand it also means being in time with ordering tickets.

The Paradiso is an old church near the leidseplein that has been converted into a music venue. Mostly live music is played here but also at the weekends there are often DJ's playing. Its a nice spacious venue with a very high ceiling and a balcony. Definately worth checking out as its one of the best venues in the city.

In Amsterdam are in fact only two real platforms for popmusic. One of them is Paradiso, near Leidseplein (Leidse square). The building was once a church, but now it is used for a bright variety of (pop)music. One of the highlights of Paradiso was the concert of Rolling Stones in 1995.
Please note: There is no sale of tickets at Pradiso. Tickets must be bought in advance at AUB ticketshop, large Postoffices/VVV offices, GWK offices (located in the larger railway stations), on the internet http://www.ticketservice.nl or through Uitlijn tel.no.: +31-20-6211288. The newest possibility is to buy tickets through Paradiso website http://www.paradiso.nl/ (or evt. at the entrance on the performance evening if still some tickets available).
Dress Code: There is no special dress requirement, but it goes without saying that weapons, knives and harddrugs are not allowed. There is body check.
If not mentioned otherwise membership is compulsory
€ 2,50 a month membership, € 17.50 a year membership (2004)

It was a problem for me where to put the Paradiso. It is for sure a nightlife spot, but also a place you can bring under 'Must see activities'. As long as I know (at least if my information is well) it was in the past a church. Now we had the luck that the place was close, but some side door was open. We sneak in there and for the first time I saw the beauty of this place without a bunch of people. However, if you look well to the pictures you can notice that it was a church in the past. I really want to find out how old and what background this place will have. If I find out I will ad the details here.
Dress Code: They don't have ;-)

The Paradiso! The oldest dance and rock temple I know in Amsterdam. I was about 14 years young when I came here the first time and about 24 I was there the last time. Until now of course, although it was afternoon and it only went open at 7pm. However, the most famous bands have playing here in the past. Even the Rolling Stones played here. It was also the place where Holland renowned, but alas, now mourned singer 'Herman Brood' started his career. To know the future program (in Dutch), just click
here.
