MAX EUWE CENTRUM:
Max Euweplein 30a
here you can find all kind of information about playing chess.
Prof. Dr. Max Euweplein was the best chess player The Netherlands has ever known. He became world champion in 1935. This centre, dedicated to Max Euweplein himself and to the importance of his work for the world of chess, was opened in 1982. Part of the centre is a museum with a number of interesting exhibitions related to the history of chess.
There is also a chess board with giant pieces. Anyone can play at this chess board (as long as you have the time and patience to wait for a game), and test their skills against Amsterdam's best players. Don't play unless you know what you are doing, they don't like when a tourist "hack" plays. If you don't know how to play it is a cool place to go and people watch.
The Max Euweplein square and the giant chess board is located in the Leidseplein area on Max Euwplein. And the giant chess board is right in front of the Hard RockCafe.
We ran across this chess game as a small plaza at Max Euweplein. This gentleman is just about to lose.
