How Avoid the DFDS bus

We used the hydrofoil to connect with the DFDS ferry to Newcastle @ 5 euros each.
You can avoid the main canal road & head under the bridge half right in front of the ferry. The walk into Ijmuiden shopping centre took 20 mins.
There is lots of sub-urban shopping with cheap drinks & snacks. See how out of the city Dutch live.
Turn right before C&A then take the next road left & head to the port down a pleasent residential street. This should take futher half an hour. We towed a large wheely suitcase. Towards the port the housing looks scruffier but not threatening. There are bars & a smoking coffeeshop just 100m from the DFDS terminal.

Ijmuiden Harbour

Another very pleasant way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city is to take a trip to the beach at Ijmuiden, travelling by Hydrofoil and bus from Amsterdam.
At Ijmuiden you will fins a wide promenade lined with shops and cafes as well as a busy marina full of pleasure craft.
To reach Ijmuiden take the Hydrofoil (operated by The Fast Flying Ferry company) from pier 7 at the rear of Centraal Station. The ferries leave evry 30 minutes and the journey takes about the same time.
You will leave the ferry at Velsen and from the bus stop right by the ferry there you take the number 70 Connexxion bus into Ijmuiden.
The last ferry leaves Velsen at about 5.30pm and a return ticket costs €7.10 per adult.
The complete time and price listing for the ferries are on the website below.

Flying Ferry

If you have enough of the town you can go to the sea. You can take a train or you can use a boat. With the Fast Flying Ferries you can go to IJmuiden and walk on the shore (it takes abt. 25 min with the boat and than you have to take a bus).
There goes a boat every 30 minutes (on Saturday and Sunday every hour).

Pick-up point: behind the Central Station – Steiger 7.
