Tired of the busy city? Want to relax in the park, but the Vondelpark is way too crowded? (Yes it is!) Take tram 7 or 14 to the end of the line (east) and enjoy Flevopark. This nice little park in the eastern part of Amsterdam is perfect for a nice stroll, a picknick, jogging or just lying in the grass. No tourists here! (Well, there's a camping and a hostel in the area, so maybe a few tourists after all). There is also a big outdoor pool here (open May-September).
If you like to take a walk here, I recommend the "Merwedekanaaldijk", a dike road (no cars allowed) with water on both sides, just behind the park. You can get on this road near the entrance of the swimmingpool. If you cross the Nesciobrug (a new bridge a bit further to the east, just for pedestrians and cyclists) you enter another park, called Diemerpark.

Take the #14 tram, from Dam Sq. or Rembrantplein, towards Flevopark....last stop is a wonderful park with a water flowing all through it...you feel as if you're far outside of the city, watching the river boats and barges pass and wandering about the paths in the tall grass.
