    Nemo, the new metropolis techno-museum

    by Pavlik_NL Written Dec 21, 2003

Within the harbour and along the route of most canalboats is a monstrous structure of green metal, floating in the water. This is the New Metropolis, or short NEMO. The building is created by Renzo Piano, which is also responsible for the Groningen museum (equaly ugly building in my opinion). The huge green block is situated on the Southern part of the IJ-tunnel and made of copper plating. It houses the technological museum which already in it's short existance has had enormous financial troubles. The nickname of the freak-building is "Titanic", not only to it's form and situation in the water, but also in regards to the bankrupty that threatens the museum already for long.

Go on top of the roof of 'NEMO', the funny looking green building at the seafront. You get a lovely view from there!
