 | Amsterdam Red Light District Reviews | 1 - 10 of 12 | | On our way to the redlight district we pass the old taxcollectors office, a beautifull building, it is built in 1638 by Jacobus van Campen. The merchants who docked their boats here had to pay taxes on beer, tabacco, wine and grain. On the facade we see two shields. The left one is historical not correct it is a koggeship with a french flags in front. The right shield has the flag with the three crosses of Amsterdam and is topped with an emperorscrown. A city flag may never have an emperorscrown in the heraldry. But it is nice to look at.... Address: Oude brugsteeg Leave a Comment

RED LIGHT DISTRICT: Prostitution is regulated here & licensed brothels surrounding the Oude Kirk with street houses displaying their wares behind plate-glass windows. You can drive past the 17th century homes & observe the storefronts where women half-naked are watching TV, reading books & darning socks while waiting for customers to come along. I was told these ladies even pay taxes & have regular medical check-ups & health coverage provided by the state! Leave a Comment

Take a peek at the city's infamous Red Light District. Amsterdam is definitely THE undisputed SEX capital of Europe (like what Bangkok is in Asia). Did you know that the hoertjes (hookers) here are completely LEGAL? You'd find them behind the windows scantily clad.... reading, sewing, staring back at you(!) etc. whilst waiting for customers. And believe me, you'd know when they are bussssy with a customer. :-) The curtains will be shut! I don't mean to sound rude or what, but some of these ladies are really quite unattractive (by human standards) and some are as old as your grandmother.... DON'T even try taking a candid photo of them.... You'd land yourself in HOT soup (read: pimps will go running after you). I have NEVER seen this many MEN looking soooo eager before in my life either (read: eyes twinkling... salivating... the works!). Ladies, DON'T come here unescorted. Believe me, you wouldn't want to be mistaken as one of these 'ladies of the night'. Ahem! Make sure your boyfriend/ the guy you're with have his arms around your shoulders - ya know... in a protective manner. :-)) If he isn't doing it, TELL HIM SO! Photo Below: My friend and his brother (those brave guys!) standing right in the middle of the Red Light District here in Amsterdam. Er... what were you guys doing there, pray tell? :-)

The Red Light District. Whatever you do don’t take pictures of the “working women” behind the glass. I had read about this before but I sister hadn’t so she did! The women in orange grabbed for the door, ran out of her room, yelled “maricon” and a couple other things I couldn’t understand then threw a full can of Hienikin at my sister. Luckily it didn’t hit anyone (but landed too close to my legs for comfort). Leave a Comment

THE RED LIGHT DISTRICT ..I searched all around for those red lights everyone was talking about. They are in the upper left corner of the picture..see??...some pretty girl with a cute tatoo sitting in a storefront was more than happy to point them out to me.Thats my story..and Im sticking to it. Youll notice all the guys in the picture seem to be looking to the right..thats because the girl had a habit of sitting in the windowfront in her underwear. Hmmm..doesnt she realise if she does that, people will stare????....LOL Leave a Comment

Naturally I did walk through the famous Red Light District. I have to be honest, it really did not do much for me. The thought of walking through a street with prostitutes on display sounds exciting. I actually felt a little bit sad. I see nice young girls simply making the statement: It does not matter who I am. If you want a female anatomy, I have one available. Maybe I am over-reacting. Amsterdam is indeed a beautiful city. I really hope to visit there again. I felt that this street almost spoils the beauty. Maybe if I vist another time, I will change my mind! Leave a Comment
