Miscellaneous: Actually, there are a few things easily available in A'dam that you definitely should not pack.
Whether it's some truly disgusting pornography or a little something from one of the coffeeshops, my advice to you is don't bring it home, especially if home is the USA.Why ruin what was, more than likely, a very enjoyable stay in A'dam. Not to mention the fact that this kind of behaviour makes it harder for the Netherlands to maintain its enlightened attitude concerning victimless crimes.

Luggage and bags: We were lucky enough to only have day packs when we were in Amsterdam but if you have to have a big bag then take a backpack...

Luggage and bags: Make sure not to have too many lighters in one luggage or bag, if you are a collector like myself, they can be confiscated as a fire hazard.
