De Blonde Hollander (The Blond Dutchman): The best local Dutch cuisine in Amsterdam

This restaurant in the neighborhood of the cluster of restaurants near the Leidse Plein, is by far my favourite restaurant where they serve traditional Dutch "pot". A great variety can be ordered of many real Dutch recepies that appeared (and disappeared) through the ages. The food is prepared with care and served with a smile (and if necessary appropriate explanation).

Favorite Dish: Hutspot & klapstuk = stew of potatoe, carrots and onions, topped with juicy gravy and long baked soft (beef)meat.

If you want to have Dutch Pancakes, this is a great place! No you can't get in before noon, so have your continental breakfast and then check this place out for lunch. You won't be disappointed!

Favorite Dish: I had a pancake with bacon, apple and cheese. It was scrumptious!

De Blauwe Hollander: Good reasonably priced local food

One thing I always try to do when I go somewhere is to sample the local cuisine. Dutch cuisine is more hearty than adventurous but is definitely worth a try. De Blauwe Hollander is probably one of the best places to do so in central Amsterdam. It is a cosy little restaurant, with decent prices and virtually always full. You will most probably have to share one of the long tables with other diners. If you are a large group, consider booking ahead.

Favorite Dish: Try the typical dishes and if you're not too sure, ask the waiter. My personal favourites are erwtenspoep (thick pea soup with bacon) and hutspot (potatoes mashed with vegetables and served with braised meat).
