De Kroon: Impress your partner with dinner at De Kroon

I always found Rembrandtplein to be the tacky square of Amsterdam, especialy compared to Leidsplein. Maybe it's because of the neon lights in most bars, or the louder and more drunk atmosphere.
It was to my great surprise that I discovered this great place, bang in the middle of the square, at 17i. It is a classy restaurant/bar/club, with a great decor, very friendly staff and tasty cuisine. It is definately the place to take your partner for a romantic dinner (make sure you reserve a table in the upstairs balcony, which overlooks the square) and after dinner enjoy a few drinks or cocktails by the bar area.

Favorite Dish: We tried the salmon and angelfish dishes, which were delicious. Not great portions but this is something you expect in upmarket places like this. Do not miss the Chilean Cabernet Sauvignion, which felt like nectar. You can easily drink bottles of the stuff.

de Kroon: See the skeletons of animals

In 1898 Café De Kroon was opened. The name (the crown) is because queen Wilhelmina was crowned that year in Amsterdam. In the early fifties it closed due to the loss of clients under the jewish population after the second world war.
In 1990 Royal Café De Kroon was opened in the same building. The interior was decorated in an old rich way. There are many displays here. There are stuffed animals, and skeletons of a monkey for example.

But the most intersting is ofcourse the food, which is great !

We had a lovely boat tour after Lunch and then a city walk: interesting and pleasant. IT DID NOT RAIN, which was GREAT!

Some of our VT friends (we were 19) went to the Historic Museum and a few went shopping which is always alluring and fun!

We went to the new MUSEUM HERMITAGE AMSTERDAM and think it GLORIOUS and know this only is the start!
The exhibition was fantastic and more about this Museum is in my MUST SEE TIPS, so please, do go there...

At 6 we had dinner at DE KROON: Diana (dila) and her husband José (el_holandes) were our hosts this day and had arranged tables and dinner for us here.

The place is very atmospheric and there were 2 long tables ready for us.

The dishes were NICE for the eye (and cameras!) and a delight for moth and stomach!

Of course we had so much to tell each other, so many photos to take and such fine food to eat that time went by far too quick!
And.................we had a train to catch......

DIANA & JOSé, thanks for EVERYTHING: you did a FINE JOB!
We enjoyed the day tremendously from beginning till start!
