Here's another winner! This little hole-in-the-wall has all the battered, rustic charm of its former (pre-1967) life as a "brown cafe" and a great terrace (see photo on website) beside a pretty canal. We came for their fondue as, well, when in the Netherlands one just must try as much cheese as possible. They offer two types and we ordered one of each expecting dainty pots with a bit of bread? It turned out to be two very LARGE pots and a LOT of bread that we barely made a dent in plus a side salad each. And it was delicious. Oh my. It was all we could do to hold back so that we could split a dessert: a heavenly plate of Dutch poffertjes (fluffy little pancakes) with caramelized sugar and vanilla ice cream with a dollop of whipped cream. Good thing we'd trotted the miles we did that day!
The cafe is very close to the Westerkerk and Anne Frank House and open from 10:00 AM - 1:00 AM, although the kitchen closes at 10:00. There are three menus (lunch, in-between and dinner) with prices ranging from a few euro for a snack to €12 - 18 for entrees with salads, sandwiches, soup, etc. falling somewhere in the middle. Not hungry? Come for a pint or glass of wine at a sunny canal-side table or for a nightcap. Good value, casual and very friendly: highly recommended.
Note: fondue is only served inside and only during the dinner hour. One order is PLENTY for two, with an extra side salad, or would be a good appetizer for a group. Prices will vary widely depending on what you order so see the website.

This is a great cafe on the Prinsengracht, not far from Anne Frank's House. The tables are right by the canal on a quiet street, and the service is fast and friendly. The prices are also very reasonable, and we felt that this was probably the best value lunch we had in Amsterdam.
Favorite Dish: We had a focaccia club sandwich, and a Mexican chicken wrap, followed by a really tasty apple pie. The sandwich and wrap were stacked with filling, they were just so good. Definitely recommended.
