The food here is just wonderful, and so is the atmosphere. Cafe de Reiger feels like your local neighborhood pub - full of chatting locals, lots of wood, and an upside-down sign above the door (look for it). It's in the Jordaan. But the food is far better than pub food, and the service is good, too. I had the pepper steak, salad, and beer and it was all excellent. Candles and a giant vase of flowers on the bar completed the scene - very cozy, but very casual. If I lived here, I'd come every day.
Reiger, by the way, means stork.
Café De Reiger is a typical Amsterdam café.
Just hop in for a drink and a snack and enjoy the local atmosphere.
