The Kantjil & De Tijger restaurant is a great meeting place and serves a nice "rijsttafel" menu.
Special if you are with a group up to 20 people this is a place to explore.
The kantjil rijsttafel will provide you with: Nasi Poetih, Nasi Goreng, Lontong, Rendang, Saté Babi, Saté Ajam, Saté Kambing, Saté Ikan, Smoor Babi, Ajam Pangang Ketjap Pedis, Ikan Boemboe Bali, Brocolli Tjampoer, Sajoer Lodeh, Salad Nanas, Gado Gado, Atjar Ketimoen, Tahoe Telor, Seroendeng and Kroepoek.

I have a very little exposure to Indonesian food to say that this resto is the best. But, I must say I am very satisfied (and full) with the food which by the way was pre-ordered by our VT Meeting organizer, Martin. We also have Dutch people in our crew that night who vouched for this restaurant's excellent food... I trust their judgement.
Each paid 30-35 euros which is not bad considering the amount of food that we chowed down.

Perhaps a little touristy, but the location of this restaurant is perfect and so is the food. Well... almost anyway. Rijsttafel is a little like a buffet, except for you don't have to walk to the buffet, because the buffet is set on your table. The atmosphere is very nice and the waiters are friendly and very prompt. It's light and above all very clean, also the bathrooms. I organised the dinner for a VT-meeting in this restaurant and everyone was happy with the choice. We ordered a rijsttafel for 10 people and had a slection of about 20 different dishes. Some of them were babi pangang, ajam pangang, sate ajam, sate babi, sate udeng, gado gado, ikan boemboe bali, atjar ketimoen, seroendeng, kroepoek, and different types of rice and mee. One type of sate seemed to be a bit dry, but the rest was very nice, good flavours and good spices.
Besides the restaurant there is also a take a way section in the restaurant and they also do catering. I heard their takeaway isn't so good, but I don't have any experience with that. Though I have to say that if their takeaway is as good as their restaurant food, I can't imagine it being very bad.
This is actually a restaurant but I've only dined here once and the food is not so good. It speacilises in Indonesian fusion type of food. I am an Asian and I don't quite like the taste that much because I reckon that they've changed the ingredients to suit the Europeans.
However, the lunch is good. I really like their noodle (chow mein) that comes in a box. You have a choice of fried rice or noodles. Then you can pick curry, sambal and another dish. All this is really cheap, delicious and cute cos you always see Americans eating Chinese food in those boxes but you don't get them in Europe but now you do in Amsterdam.
The menu at the Kantjil is hard to follow, but well worth the few minutes it takes just trying to work it out!
The waiting staff will explain if necessary, but it is actually more fun to do it yourself. It gets the tastebuds going just reading their descriptions!
There is a great lively feel to this place - staff are fun and the ambience of the whole place makes for a great evening! Great amateur portraits/paintings on the wall too!
Favorite Dish: We had the set meal called Batavia. It was more than enough for 2! The wine was a reasonable price too.
Very nicely done Indonesian restaurant, with quick and efficient service... a little unusual for most Dutch restaurants I've been to...
The "rijstaffel" is an Indonesian dish, and is excellent here. You really couldn't go wrong with any selection off the menu. For two people, a small rijstaffel will be plenty...
*Update... on the trip last week, we grabbed a table after a short wait on a Friday evening at 7:00PM, and immediately ordered the rijstaffel, and we were out in 45 minutes!

Favorite Dish: I've only had the rikjstaffel, but it was as excellent as the recommendation. For two people, a small order has rice along with 8 different dishes of beef, chicken, vegetable and seafood. They bring the dishes out and build the table around the rice... hence the name, "rijstaffel."

You haven't lived until you have had an Indonesian rice table (rijstaffel) in Amsterdam.
I had a good one for a decent price here at Kantjil en de Tijger. Delicious.

Favorite Dish: The rice table I had at Kantjil en de Tijger, a large, 10+ dish combination of seafood and meat rijstafel on yellow saffron rice was excellent.
Noisy, busy, crowded, and great food.
In Amsterdam is a must to eat in a indonesian restaurant. There are many and usually you can order items "à la carte" or order a Rijstaffel (a combination of dishes).
Favorite Dish: Rijstaffel: it's a combination of dishes. Fish, meat, rice, ... . Our table was full of food and it was really hard to eat everything.
Amsterdam is full of great restaurants. To name just a few: De Proeverij (French/Dutch) at Prinsengracht, Kantjil & De Tijger if you like Javanese Indonesian food, Wegbrans in the 1e Anjeliersdwarsstraat (Jordaan) for French/Dutch, Duende in the Lindengracht for great tapas and many many more. Best place for lunch is Small World Catering. Also Nielsen in one of the nine streets is brilliant (great sandwiches, shakes and cakes!).
Small World's food is outstanding. The place is really tiny so visiting it for a very late lunch may be your only option if you want to sit.
Favorite Dish: Small World's carrot cake is the best I've ever tasted. All sandwiches are very fresh and the Australian owner Shawn uses home grilled vegetables, home made tapenade and so on. My all time favourite sandwich is the foccacia with fresh tuna, tapanade and rucola. Divine!

Authentic Indonesian food is considered one of the best in Holland. It can be a bit of a tourist trap at weekends but still not to be missed!
Favorite Dish: You must have a rijstafel (ricetable). Don't eat anything else during the day though!!

I had been looking forward to a rijsttafel for many years and I do understand that Kantjil en de Tijger is a lower-end version, but I was seriously underwhelmed.
Compared to the Asian food I've eaten in the US [Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese, Cambodian] this food was fairly bland and many dishes tasted alike. The service was slow and not particularly helpful. Again I realize it isn't a gourmet place, but it left me wondering what is so wonderful about a rijsttafel.
The Netherlands is known for its great Indonesian restaurants.
Favorite Dish: Kantjil en de Tijger is a very popular restaurant, but there are many more.
