Maoz Falafel - Fast Food Chain, Amsterdam

Well falafel probably is the best food on earth ... yet it is extremely easy to mess up! Maoz NEVER mess up, this is truly the yummiest falafel I've ever eaten. They make up the chick pea balls for you and put them in the pitta pocket, then you pick your own salads and sauces ... mmm my mouth is watering just thinking about it! A must for any Amsterdam traveller! A totally vegan experience!

I first experienced Maoz falafels in Barcelona in 2001 and I've been dreaming of them ever since. Mmmmm. They're delicious. If you're not familiar with this Middle Eastern specialty, it's basically a pita sandwich filled with a fried chick-pea paste, mixed with garlic, parsley, coriander, cumin and other spices. Then, they top it with tahini and other sauces and some veggies. Yum.

All this for only 3.50 Euros. Can't beat it.

The best, healthiest, and most filling fast-food available. Nothing satisfies a craving like Maoz. You order a base falafel, then pile it with as much as you can fit from the open salad bar. Its solid.

Favorite Dish: Maoz groot (big falafel in a pita) piled to the ceiling with everything they offer, especially the curried carrots! Note: there are usually three types of sauce to choose from. choose wisely and use the yogurt sauce.

Maoz Falafel. There are several locations in Amsterdam, and around the world. There is even one in my birthtown of Philadelphia, PA, USA. Funny thing about this place... the staff was very insistent that I eat in the store in order to take advantage of the "unlimited fixin's bar." That would have been fine except that they only had four stools to sit upon and eight customers standing already. A falafel tucked into a pita is usually pretty easy to handle on the move, but load one up with unlimited fixin's and that is a different story.

Favorite Dish: Falafel. Falafel. Falafel. Oh, and did I mention the "Unlimited fixin's bar? Great for a quick meal on the run.

I'm not a vegan or vegetarian. I eat just about anything.
But one of my vegetarian friends turned me on to the falafel stands in Amsterdam. For three or four Euros you can get a big pita pocket filled with falafel, salad and dressings that is so big you can hardly finish it. I think we ate them three times in four days on our last trip.
They are tasty and filling, and you can find them at many places in the tourist areas of Amsterdam.

Favorite Dish: I like the falafel with houmus and lots of salad and dressing. It cost about four and a half Euros and it's a meal.

My wife just loves Maoz Falafel!! I don’t know what it is about fried chickpea balls that tastes so good. This chain restaurant is a favorite of ours for a quick and cheap lunch bite. Falafel runs about 5 Euro and there is a large selection of unlimited salad toppings as well as traditional sesame paste (Tihini?).

Favorite Dish: I think I've only had the falafel, but the they serve fries as well! Price, convience, and taste Maoz is the perfect cheap eats in AMS!!

For those who look for fast food, vegetarian or middle eastern food...you can find a combination of the three at Maoz Falafel. Their falafels are sooo crispy and tasty! The falafels are served with pita-sandwich...and you can freely put on your choices of salad and the sauces. The fries there are also good.

Fast food shacks aplenty all over amsterdam, but one thing of note is now and again you will find a stand selling All vegetarian meals and snacks. This one pictured is just outside the Centraal Station.

Amsterdam has good options for Vegetarians unlike other European cities I have visited. Falafal is one of the good options that we have tried. There are lot of 'Maoz' chain of restaurants available which provide you lot of options on Vegetarian Falafal. Falafal is nothing but a veg sandwich with some thing like Indian 'Masala Vada' put inside it. It is cheaper (a meal will cost you 5 Euros), tasty and sufficient in quantity. There is one 'Maoz' just in front of the Central station towards Damrak. There are few Indian restaurants also available which give you more options. There are some restaurants inside the Red Light District. Vijaya (near Old Church) and Kamasutra (inside RLD) are some of them. These are bit costlier so Falafal was our first option.
