Italian Restaurants / Pizzeria: Pasta with cabaret

    by jo104 Written Sep 9, 2005

We did not actually go into this restuarant but we did have a look whilst enquiring for Han's birthday. They do a cabaret around the tables some singing & music.
The menu is a set 2 courses.

the setting is very romantic, it is candlelit even at lunch times

Favorite Dish: The starters is antipasta, the main meal is a choice between 8 pasta dishes

    No artificial flavourings are used

  • Pasta E Basta: “Not the greatest, but one of the most enjoyable"

    by tan1415 Updated May 28, 2014

The meal was quite good if quite expensive. Pasta E Basta means something like pasta and that's it. With a price of €37,50 for 3 course meal...alot of italians will be looking elsewhere. And I can understand that. But the place is more than just a restaurant.

For you are not only getting food, but also entertainment. The personel will all sing songs one time or another with a live piano player to accompany them. Songs are from classical (nessun Dorme) to latest pop like Happy from Pharrell. And do it really really well. Matter of fact ...when dinner was finished...it was very difficult to go away because you want to listen to the next song.

Back to the food. The bad. It's not as good as in Italy. But no italian restaurant in holland can really compare. But most of the food is fresh and quite tasty. The Anti pasti buffet is really good. And actually a meal in it self. For holland it's quite complete and tasty. Fresh self made salads. I miss good bread.
The pasta is nice...served to share for the table. Quite unusual for Holland..but the way i normally do it when in Italy. Basically giving the whole table a chance to try all pastas served. Downside...you get to eat the less succesfull choices of other people. The definite no no was the Shrimp and fennel pasta. I dont like the taste. The big no no was the vongole pasta. Pasta to dry and my own vongole pasta is way better. My choice of freggole with beef was outstanding.
The desserts looks great. So much choice. Had the grand dessert.a choice of all desserts. A winner. Tiramisu was awesome.

So back to the title of my review. It's not close to being my best meal ever, but it's closest to one of the most enjoyable meals ever. And for amsterdam...when you consider the price of italian meals here, the entertainment you get....iyt's actually quite a bargain.

FYI From thursday to Saturday there are 2 dinner shifts. While on other days there are free seatings. Resevations always recommended and early seating means you get to enjoy more songs.

So if you are looking for an enjoyable night in Amsterdam...this place comes highly recommended.Or to be honest I have not come across a better combination of food and entertainment in Holland.

Favorite Dish: The antiPasta buffet was great. In itself very fullfilling.

    Pasta e Basta: Singing waiters

    by Charlotte121 Written Oct 2, 2004

Trendy pasta restaurant with a twist - the waiters sing opera arias in-between serving the plates of pasta. Lively atmosphere, popular with large(r) parties, no group reservations allowed during the weekend though. Make reservations well in advance.

Favorite Dish: You can take a mix of starters yourself (like a buffet) and they are served on ice inside a piano. Especially the vitello tonato is very good.

The waiters are people from the school of music and they perform while you're eating! Very special!
