Vooges: A nice cafe/restaurant with a young vibe
This was a really nice "find" on our first night in Amsterdam. Upscale casual, we would call this place in the USA - good quality without pretension. Vooges is on two levels - the downstairs dominated by the convivial and friendly bar, the upstair a little quieter but still "fun". Very reasonable prices for this part of town - only a few blocks from Rembrandt Square and the Flower Market, on one of the main streets. I had a kind of "whitefish" that was excellent, and Nikke was very pleased with her lamb. Really, though, the highlight was the creme brulee - it was some of the best I've ever had!
Vooges: A laid back locals place
This place has been a staple of mine since I looked beyond the disappointing main tourist food places in Amsterdam. A friendly, relaxing atmosphere, they always find a table for you, great combination of old jazz and rock in the background. Nice to get away from tourists. Good drink selection (also has a small bar). The main menu is up on the chalk board with several choices of meats and fish. The best bread I have had. Great desserts. I have eaten here 4 times now and have never been disappointed. Dutch food can actually have taste and you will find it here.
Vooges: Friendly staff and Good Food!
A bit of a wait, but well worth it. The food is excellent, priced fairly and the staff was very accomodating. This was recommended by locals and it was not a "tourist trap" type restaurant.
Favorite Dish: The menu at this restaurant has many satisfying options.
