    De Bijenkorf is one of the Netherland's leading department stores. You can compare it with Lafayette in Paris. It's a big store with several floors where you will find the better products. You can leisurely walk around and have a look at all the great stuff. Keep your credit card ready when you want to buy this stuff :-)

    Men's, childrens' and ladies' wear, food, gifts, cosmetics, toys, cd/DVD, books and small thing for the kitchen or house in general.

    As this is a luxurious shop, expect to pay more than average

    The Bijenkorf (Beehive) is a large modern department store "hidden" inside a 1913 building by J.A. van Straten (neo Rennaissance style).

    Depending on what you are looking for .. you can just window-shop or you can debit your card with any ammount that you can afford.

    If you are looking for a bigger department store, Bijenkorf is a good bet. Bijenkorf is a chain department store throughout the Netherlands.

    While they can be a pricey, you will probably find what you are looking for here.

    De Bijenkorf is the biggest department store in Amsterdam. It is quite an exclusive place where you can buy almost everything you need, from clothing and home decoration to the latest cd's and magazines.

  • A much loved, Dutch institution, (there was even an exhibition of the history of the company in the Beurs van Berlage Museum in 2002). Some things are as stylish as those in the Conran/Habitat shops but they are as inexpensive as anything found in Woolworth's. Hema's kitchenware is particularly good, with simple crockery and glassware always available. Prices are low, but the quality is usually high: good buys include casual clothes, baby clothing, bed linen, underwear, household items, stationery and other accessories. They have seasonal offers, from garden furniture in summer to chocolate alphabets in November. Hema also sells pastries, bread, and a few delicatessen foods such as smoked eels and cheap wines. None of the shops take credit cards

    The Bijenkorf is Hollands most popular shopping mall and the one Bijenkorf in Amsterdam, is the best-stocked department store I ever visited. Located right in the centre on about 10 minutes walk from Central Station the building always is background to the National Monument "Dodenherdenking" at 4 May.

    For shopping you can give your wallet a hit ...

    Design is truly Bijenkorf, so for fashion you may take a deep breath. Special for make-up artists there is MAC, with absolutely great make-up products, and see the art-gallery on 5th floor.

    Behind the ROYAL PALACE on the Dam is MAGNA PLAZA , one of the most beautiful buildings in Amsterdam.
    Until some years ago this magnificent building housed the MAIN POST OFFICE , but today it is the home of trendy clothing stores an unusual gift and gadget shops.

    At the end of the KALVERSTRAAT, near the Munttoren, is the KALVERTOREN %c&%s& - an absolute shoppers' paradise.
    The most striking feature of this building is the 100-foot-tall glass tower which provides an extraordinary view of the city center.

    Head then to the BIJENKORF (THE BEEHIVE) on the DAM, where shoppers will be delighted to find an extensive range of cosmetics, clothing, shoes, accessories, music, books, toys, furniture, homewares and much, much more....all in one elegant famous store where lots of Dutch people from all over the country love to come for a day......

    One of Netherland's leading department stores, located on Damrak. I was told to come here as it was a typical dutch department store... well i didnt get beyond the ground floor with all the perfumes and make up, so i'll have to take their word for it! :) I got some amber beads there, very pretty.

    Is one of the first department stores in Amsterdam. The name de Bijenkorf started to be used in 1892, but originally there was already a shop in 1870 in Amsterdam. The present location dates from abt. 1910. After several years de Bijenkorf opens his 2nd department store in Den Haag (the Hague). Today there are 13 Bijenkorf department stores in the Netherlands.
    It is a luxurious department store with all kind fashionable and exclusive articles. They are since 1953 a member of the Association Commerciale Internationale, a club of leading department stores, where just one member per country is accepted: for France is that Galeries Lafayette and for Engeland John Lewis.

    Anything from cosmetics, toys, cd/DVD, books, Women's/men's/children's garments/clothing (brands and also without a brand), to shoes, socks etc. But also furniture and lamps. Everything what you can expect in this kind of department store.

    As it is a better/luxurious department store in general you can expect higher prices than avarage.
