Shoe Shops, Amsterdam

First thing pieter_jan_v tells me, when we met up for the VT meeting was: ATLC, you need new shoes. Now where did he get that idea?

What to buy: Jan Jansen (1941) is a premier Dutch shoe designer. Many of his models you see copied for the larger market. He's a trendsetter.

What to pay: hmmm, it's the kind of shoe that doesn't carry a price tag. I haven't informed lately but I expect from about 2 to 3 times the price of good quality shoes.

Unlike in the high priced shops on Hooftstraat and elsewhere, real avant design was found in chain stores with prices concordant with service - low. No salespersons to speak of, just piles of boxed shoes with an example perched on the top. No decor, often few or no chairs to use while trying on the selections. Styles ranged from the bizarre to the eccentric ( skull and crossbones ) to opened zippers with the sides fixed and opened. Nothing like these shoes in the United States at any cost.

My beloved Prosperina bought five pair, spreading the wealth among several chains and two cities. And regrets not having bought a sixth. Only one cost more than 30Eu. All have won compliments on return home, unique and stylish. And despite the rigors of a New York winter, these shoes have been surprisingly durable.

No-one can visit Holand and not buy some clogs!!! haha

Tourist shops are all the same, crammed from floor to ceiling with traditional items for that country. In Holland it's the clogs, windmills etc. Most of it is cheap tack to be honest, but sometimes you happen across something that isnt too expensive and is decent quality and is nice.

We like to take little mementos back for family, so collected a few fridge magnets for them. It's all in the thought huh? haha

What to buy: In this instance, we bought some clogs and a windmill

What to pay: We paid 8 euros for a medium sized pair of natural wood clogs

This was an incredible shoe shop, hundreds of pairs of shoes at reasonable prices. I loved this store, but my boyfriend hated it. The service isn´t the best but you can find many pairs that you can fall in love with.

Not sure which shop this was, just thought Mr. Dorothy Gayle would love to go home in these, of either color-----window shopping in A'Dam is alot of fun!
