A sports bar that also serves a small sandwhich menu and has two big screen TVs. During the American football season, there are some games playing on Sundays, just later in the day because of the time difference.

    Amsterdam Beaches

    by pieter_jan_v Updated Jan 15, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Amsterdam has 5 temporary summer beaches:

    1) Blijburg aan Zee
This is a sandy beach on the new IJburg Island terrain. There is a beach café and a lifeguard.

    2) Strand West
This is a wide sandy beach with a view over the IJ. There is the Cantina Mobilé restaurant and a lot more.

    3) Amsterdam Plage
This is a small beach along the Silodam, a dam that streches into the IJ at the Stenen Hoofd.

    4) NEMO Summertime
NEMO at the Oosterdok is a well-known museum and the view from the rooftop is great. Add some sand and water and it becomes even more delightful.

    5) Strand Zuid
The harbour of the RAI Exhibition center has been changed into a beach with hammocks and terrasses. The A10 highway is not the best view, but you can enjoy the sun.

    Circuit Racing, Zandvoort

    by BlueBerry_7 Written Dec 10, 2002

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Circuit Park Zandvoort, in the north of the town a short distance from the beach, used to be the venue for the Dutch Formula One Grand Prix motor race, but now it hosts only much smaller events. If you come on a summer weekend, however, you might find a Formula Three training session or a Porsche meeting under way

Equipment: Zandvoort is bustling with people after a day at the race. The locals really get into this we noticed when the trains were packed like sardines on the way back to Haarlem!

The Amsterdam canals are great for a rowing trip. When you are with a group, it's a perfect opportunity.

If you want to row at a more professional level, the "Bosbaan" is still in the South part of town. It was dug for the Summer Olympic Games of 1928.

Equipment: A rowing boat (they are for rent).
