Bridges Over The Canals
Whilst walking around Amsterdam I was amazed with the number of bridges over the canals. In some areas bridges are within 200 meatres of each other.
When on the canal cruise the rain stopped for 10 minutes and the windows were opened I took the opportunity to take some bridge photos. This is not an optical illusion, the bridges are very close.
Usually you will see bicycles parked along the sides of the bridge.

I first saw this bridge on Linda's page (36waterfalls) and I promise myself, when I go to Amsterdam,I have to see it;) and so I did. What attracted me the most is its unique shape for a pathfoot bridge. My friend and I walked back and forth on this bridge;) it was fun!

Other bridges on Canals
Amsterdam is and old harbor city built deep inside the big bay at the mouth of the river Amstel. The 100 kilometers long Amsterdam canals, form the vital bloodlines of the city, for centuries far more important than its streets. Hundreds of years ago, boats and smaller ships were able to enter the centre of Amsterdam to transport the merchandises from all over the world. The town houses of the merchants were often their warehouses, with an office on the ground floor, living quarters in the back of the house, and the storage on higher floors. Merchandises were transported up and down by a lift going up to the attic through the very middle of the house floor.
Today, the canals are crowded by the tourist boats, because to understand Amsterdam, you should see it as the travelers before the centuries - from the water level. Almost 2000 bridges span above the Amsterdam canals. Each of them has its name usually displayed on both side of the bridge, its character and its history. Most of them are bascule bridges which can be raised to give the passage to the ship. During the summer, you might often see as the busy street traffic in Amsterdam is held up for five minutes or more by a pair of older people on holidays, who slowly cruise on the deck of their small yacht throughout the Amsterdam centre.
romantic bridges of Amsterdam
When you will be on the boat tour, the captain will pause for you to enjoy the view of those bridges. Several ancient humped bridges cross one of the smaller canals here, and they are considered the prettiest and most romantic bridges in the city.
While walking in the city.. You will see many canals and many bridges that connects the roads.. Some birdges are typical dutch style..
We are resting on a bank near the canal and look at this wonderful bridge..
Amsterdam has many bridges,...
Amsterdam has many bridges, some of them pretty regular, others really beautiful. Is't well worth paying attention to them when strolling around town.
The one on the photo is near the Carre theatre (Amstel).
The bridges at night
When you wander the city near Nieuwe Herrengracht at night look for the prettily lit drawbridge - it makes a nice photo and a romantic little spot from the canalside opposite.
Great bridges are everywhere
Bridges must cross something and that is where the beautiful canals come in.
Lining the canals are houseboats that range from pretty straight forward to down right strange.
