    Canal walk

by vickss Written Aug 24, 2004

Canals are an omnipresent scene in Amsterdam and on a norman day one can find al kinds of -- small, large and midsized boats moving around.
Unfortunately I couldn't find time for that bit of local siteseeing which is a must see/experience activity.
Though there are jettys leaving from a few places.. I gues the most popular is the one at Central Station point from where lotta tourists get on the boat.. Try and catch the open top one with probably a dinner thrown in and enjoy..

As you already know Amsterdam is full of canals. Why not take a boat tour through them? Away from many tourists, bicycles and traffic jams.

It is fantastic what you see from the canals, that you might have missed if you just walked around. This building is proof that there are other buildings that do not have gables in Amsterdam.

It's so nice to saunter along the beautiful canals of Amsterdam. One of the nicest is probably the so-called Herrengracht.

It is interesting to walk along the canals and see the house boats on the water. You can rent these houseboats for your stay in Amsterdam.

There are many streets running at angles. Some are short, some are longer. Learn the Canals and it will be a big help finding your destinations.

The most comfortable way to see the bridges, the canals and the boathouses of Amsterdam is to take a canal cruise.

Canals are all over this gorgeous city, and if you take a map, you can walk alongside loads of them, they are all very beautiful, and some have pubs alongside, where you can stop off for a beer.

The row of palacial townhouses is considered the most opulent part of old Amsterdam. They are located on the Herengracht canal near the river Amstel.

The city of Amsterdam is a maze of canals. These canals are one of the major attractions of the 'Venice of the North'.
