this shop was one of the more comfortable shops we went to, and they have great hot tea.. the seating is all floor level low seats with lot's of pillows and cushions. they specialize in nederhash which i found to be very tasty and smooth..they sell a variety called dutch delight and i can attest it's very delightful. this shop has a tourist like vibe going on, but it's not a bad shop..we only bought the strain that they entered, but we smoked here on a couple different occasions..the upper level is nice it looks out onto the street below. the ceiling fans make sure fresh air is always there. they also have good orange juice.. In their own words: "In the steamy summer of 1992 The Greenhouse Effect was born. We wanted to give the discerning smoker an alternative to the stereotypical ´dark and seedy´coffeeshop and set about doing it our own way." Well, that's exactly what they've achieved here... it's a lovely light space, full of lush green plants and bamboo floors and walls... if you're looking for a place to light up, make this your stop off point. The space cakes are nice too :) (just remember the effects may be stong!) There is also a friendly-looking hotel attached, although I've not experienced it personally. Leave a Comment

Get a whiff..... of what life is like after the ridiculous "war" (?) on soft drugs reaches a truce. Not legal, but tolerated .. 'decriminalized' ... ( gedogen -- "turning a blind eye") are the many coffeeshops in Amsterdam that sell world-class weed and hashish. The Dutch have perfected growing & genetics to provide the best in the world ( though some of the talented breeders & growers of the great sativas of California would be up for taking the "pepsi challenge" on that statement.) Imported hashish from Nepal, India, Morocco, all over the world is also available, along with the new extremely potent and overpriced Iceolater Dutch nederhash / jellyhash / "bubble-hash" strains. Recommended shops(in no particular order): Styxx, Anyday, Dutch Flowers, De Kuil, Siberie, the Noon, Softland (for Internet), Dampkring, Abraxas (tourist-friendly hash milkshakes); Greenhouse Tolstraat in Oud Zuid; Old Church, Tweede Kamer, .... It seems like there are thousands of them, and very quickly imho they become zzzzzzzzzz boring boring boring boring boring....... Grey Area across from Puccini's in area of Anne Frank Huis also has excellent product, but can sporadically be a little cramped and crowded with stoned, bong-sucking americans, though Jon the bar/dealer seems to be a very cool dude (party on, Garth!). Touristy ones to avoid include any named "Bulldog." Grey Area is a tiny place with a huge reputation. It has some of the finest weed anywhere in the known universe. Popularity and limited space, however, frequently conspire to fill it to capacity. Persevere and you'll discover its virtues are also many. Glass bongs are available for your pleasure and indulgence and a conversation with the guys at the bar may well remind you how stoned you are - these guys smoke more than my chimney. Its run by two American enthusiasts, it's a mecca for American tourists visiting Amsterdam. On the wall is a clock to show that it's always 4:20.Of the available buds, you need to try 'Double Bubble Gum' which is very strong and tastes like Bubble Gum...kinda. My personal favourite is 'Grasstasy' because it tastes delicious and delivers a colourful, euphoric high. Leave a Comment Address: Oude Leliestraat 2Phone: 0031 (0)20 4204301Website: www.greyarea.nl

'Pick Up The Pieces' was the first coffee shop we stopped at, and we came back here a few times... probably because it was right underneath our hostel, but also because its quite quaint, and pretty cheap in comparison with a few of the others we visited... Its got a fussball table downstairs too, although its not in great condition. Single joints cost about 4 Euros, and you can buy weed (1.5 - 3 grams) for 14 Euros. There are a plethora of awesome coffeeshops to chill out at and Double Reggae is one of them. I personally love the front of this bar and the no under 18 sign. One can also buy practically any type of indica or sativa that you can think of in the city of Amsterdam. Much of their stuff comes in a variety of forms and is available and in a variety of potencies so the Amsterdam traveller can experience that unique high normally unavailable in other places of the world. Somehow these coffeeshops have the ability to get stuff from all around the world as well as selling their own stuff. Each coffeeshop sets up a unique atmosphere. The Double Reggae has that bar type atmosphere with Bob Marley on the speakers. The Blues Brothers is nothing special but I had to check it out. The Grasshopper looks cool at night with all those green neon lights. Abraxas has that cool vibe feel to it and Internet surfing at Pink Floyd Umma Gumma has never been so good. Who knew surfing the web could be so fun. So for a good time come to Amsterdam! Address: Central AmsterdamDirections: Central Amsterdam is located around the Central station and in the Green Light District as well as the Red light district

if you come across the blue velvet coffeeshop which is located on the same street as barney's you can meet the house stoner cat..he's usually laying down on the counter just to the right of the dealers area..you can pet him and if you ask you can take a picture..he's not the prettiest cat but he seems really happy.. Freeworld is a coffee shop / internet cafe, but a bigger emphasis on coffee shop. One budtender was far cooler than the other, but its a cool place to just come, grab either a joint or a bag (1.3 grams of great product cost only 12 Euros) and relax. The vibe is awesome with cool music and tons of alien decorations. If you can, run to the back right away where they have comfortable couch-type things, and try the coffee. Its great! Definately one of the coolest and most laid back coffee shops I've seen. Address: Nieuwendijk 30Directions: Next to Engelesteeg. Take a right onto Niewendijk from Marteelsgracht if approaching from Centraal Station.
